## **Purpose of Charity:** 

This Scout Group, which is part of the Scout Association in Northern Ireland, actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. 

## **Public and private benefit of our Charity** : 

1. The benefit which flows from our purpose is that young people are empowered to make a positive contribution to society through being engaged and supported in their personal development, including physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually. 

2. This benefit is demonstrated through Scouting making a positive impact in our communities; preparing young people to be active citizens; embracing and contributing to social change; being as diverse as the communities in which we operate. These are evidenced by feedback from our beneficiaries and the wider community. 

3. There is no harm arising from our purposes. Scouting operates within a framework of safety to enable young people to take part in adventurous activities safely. 

4. Scouting’s beneficiaries are children and young people. 

5. The only private benefit from this purpose is that Adult Volunteers are trained to deliver the programme, but this is incidental and necessary because it is needed to operate in today’s society, when working with young people.

## **Main Activities and Targets Achieved:** 

1[st] Sion Mills Scout Group operates in a small rural village in County Tyrone. We are affiliated to County Tyrone Scouts and Scouts NI. We have Beavers (age 6-8) Cubs (age 8 – 10.5) and Scouts (age 10.5 – 14.5) with the group being cross community drawing young people from the village and surrounding areas. We also operate satellite Groups in the villages of Killen and Gortin. 

In 2017/18 the Group had the following numbers in the organisation: 



- 8 Beavers 

- 33 Cubs 

- 8 Scouts 

The Group has no paid employees and relies on volunteers to run the organisation. 

Beavers meet on a Monday night with Cubs on a Monday in Sion Mills, Thursday in Gortin and Friday in Killen. Scouts operate on a Thursday. 

During the year the sections undertook various activities and badge work in line with the programme and procedures outlined by Scout HQ with all sections having a busy and fulfilling year. Beavers engaged in an active programme both inside the hall and externally. Cubs took part in various indoor and outdoor programmes including football, hikes, environmental work and camps. Scouts took part in various outdoor experiences including community work, hikes, map and compass work and an annual camp. The Group also met up and undertook joint events with other Groups in the County. 

Leaders undertook various courses including Woodbadge Training, First Aid, Safe Guarding and Leadership/Management courses.

## **Financial Position on 31[st ] March 2018. This summary shows:** 

The charity’s bank account has a Closing Balance of £802.61 from an Opening Balance of £1,701.84 

## **Funds Held by the Scout Group** 

We are pleased to confirm that no account of 1[st ] Sion Mills Cub Scouts is materially in deficit at the end of the financial year ending on 31[st ] March 2018.
