This report is for the financial year from I st September 2022 to 31 st August 2023 for I st Carryduff Guides. Our Northern Ireland charity number is 104272. The I st Carryduff Guides are a faction of the wider charity, Girlguiding Ulster. We typically hold a meeting every Tuesday night during tenn time (September to May) at St. Ignatius Church, 700 Saintfield Road, Carryduff, BclfasL B T8 8BU for an hour and 15 minutes. The aim of Girlguiding Ulster, and I st Carryduff Guides, is to promote the education of girls and young women, in order to help them develop emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. so that they can make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world and develop their full potential. The wider benefit to the community at large is enhanced social education and reS)nSIble citizenship that flows from the purpose. The charity's beneficiaries are the girls who join Girlguiding and attend the weekly meetings, where activities are carried out in order to achieve thc objectives of I st Carryduff Guides and Girlguiding Ulster. W¢ are a girl-led charity and take direction from the ever-evolving needs of our members. The young people attending the meetings are actively involved in shaping their own programme, and the benefit is increased confidence, new skills including leadership skRlls. and working as a team. During the charity's weekly meetings, activities are carried OUL chosen by the leader and approved by the girls. A balance is struck for these activities so that they meet the five essentials of Girlguiding: working together in small groups, encourdging self- government and decision makin& a balanced and varied prowme, caring for the individual, and sharing a commitment to a common standard. The running of Guides this year w&s severely impacted by lack of uptake brought on initially by lockdown and subscquently by a lack of Brownies moving their way up to Guide4 and therefore Guides went on hiatus this year. However I maintsined a presence at Brownie meetings in the hopes that girls who are old enough next year will be interested in joining the Guidcs. I closed our associated bank account near the start of the year as
there ere no incomings to cover the bank chargeg, but opencd ne onc towards the end of July in preparntion for the new financial l'ear. There is no harm flowing from the purpose of I st Carryduff Guides. Membership of I si Carryduff Guides is open to gyirls in Northern Ireland aged 10-14 from all sections of societv. accordingy to Girlguiding Ulster's infonnal education programme which runs from ages 4 to 25. There is no private benefit from our charity. In setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year, the trustees (Jennifer Fleming and Fiona Ellis) have given careful considcrdtion to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity's purposes and provide a benefit to th¢ bcneficiaries.
