The trustees present the annual report and Statements of Receipts al￿ Payments and Assets and Liabillties for
the Parish of Donaghmore upper, St Patricys for the year ended 31 December 2022.
Objectlves and Acti¥ltie5
The charitable purpose of the Churth of Ireland Is the advantrment of religion.
The princlpal funrtlon of the Parish of Donaghmore Upper, St Patrlcys is to support the advancement of the
Christian religion by promotin& through the work of the Parish of Donaghmore upper. 5t Patri&s Church of
Ireland, the whole mission of the Church, pastoral. evangelistic, social and ecurnenical. Being open to and
enga8ing with society as a whole and offering support for those needlng help are fundamentsl to the practical
delivery of the benefits of Christianfty.
As a result of artv4ity in the pursuit of the advan￿ment of the Christian religion, the Parlsh of Donaghmore
upper, St PatricV5 has custo(ty of property and of records, materials and artefacts of significance to the cultural
and reiiglous heritage and malntenance of which is undertaken by the select vestry of Parish of Dona8hmoTe
upper, St Patricvs.
Athlevetnents, Perfommnce & Publk Benefft
The Church exists prlmarily, and above all else. as a place of Christian worshlp. Services of publlc worship are
held each Sunday mornin8 throu8hout the year. Evenin8 servi￿5 are held on Wednesday nights during Lent,
each ni8ht in Holy Week Iboth shared with our slster parish), in March for the Girls Friendly Society enrolment,
at HarvestThanks8ivin& and a Christmas Carol Servi￿. Since the enforced lockdown in the early months of 2021
all services have also been broadcast online.
The parlsh Is always pleased to host groups from the wider community. and does so annually for the Oran8e
Order. The local Primary School hold their annual Carol setwi￿ in the Church.
There are good working relatlon5hlps with other local thurches. There Is a recently established seThice for
Chrlstian Unlty Week. alternatin8 wlth St Patricvs Roman Catholic Church In DonaghmoTe.
During the year 2022 there was one baptlsm. one marriage and four funeral seNices in the church.
The Church was built in 1843 with a 8rant from the Board of First Frnits, and enlarged and rtroriented during
the 1860s by the addition of a semi-circular apse. vestry and tower.
The parish supports a small but active Sunday School, which meets most weeks from September to May, a Girls
Friendly Society which meets weekly throughout the winter, and there is a Mothers Unlon meeting monthly.
The local Wl and Open Door Club make regular use of our parish hall. as does the Historical Society.
Parlsh finances and fabric are cared for by the SelectVe5try. Varfous fund ralslng and social elents are held each
year.
The parish supports several missionary groups, particularly CMS and the Church Army. There is also a series of
special appeals and collections for varlous local and international groups and in light of international disasters.
The chief sourtr of revenue for the church continues to be parishioner donations which are

supplemented by grft ald daims. The thurch recorded a total surplus in 2022 of £25,764 (2021: £7,578).

The decisions taken to Teduce costs durin8 the pandemic period sustained the parish into 2022 and
allowed it to deal with inflationary increases in running costs throughout the year.
It is theTrustees' policy to hold a level of unrestrirted fundingto meet at least one yearfs runnin8 costs.
Golng Concern
The Trustees have reviewed the budgets for the year ahead and are satisfled that there are adequate funds in
place to ensure that the Parish can continue its activities and the finanaal Statements for the year ended 31
December 2022 can be signed off as a golng concern.
Structure, Governance and Management

Chapter111 of the Constitutlon of the Church of Ireland governs Parishes and Pafothial Or8anisatlon. The Select
Vestry members are the Charity Trustees

All members of the Church of Ireland who are over the age of 18 and are either resident within the parlsh or Ilve
elsewhere but have been accustomed members of the con8regation for at least three months, may register as
members of the general vestry of the parish, allowing them to attend and vote at meetin85 of the general vestry
and to stand for elertion to the select vestry. Meetings of the 8eneral vestry are held at least once a year. The
Select Vestry is elerted as part of thls General Vestry meeting. The Select Vestry wlll hold thelr posltlons for
perlod of one year. Select Vesty members may be rtrelected annually and there Is no limit on the number of
terms which may be served.
Pay and remuneratlon
Select Vestry rnernbers are not remunerated fortheir services asTrustees. Any payments toTrustees for services
unrelated to their role as a Trustee afe approved by the Select Vestry. Such decisions are taken on the basis of
good governance and bein8 in the pursuit of the objectives and activities of the parish.

The Select Vestry is responsible for the day-t¢&day management of the parish. The select vestry consists of the
member of the clergy serving in the parlsh, any curate assistant (-the Curat￿), the churchwardens, the glebe
wardens and generally not more than twelve other rnembers of the general vestry elected at the General Vestry.
The Select Vestry is Chair￿ by the incumbent or other member of the der8y officiating in the parlsh. Select
Vestry members are responsible for making decisions on rnatters of general con￿rn and Importan￿ to the
parish induding deciding how parish funds are to be applied.
The Select Vestry meets at times fixed by the members or by the Diocesan Synod. Special meetings may be
convened at any time by the chairperson or the thurchwardens. In 2022 the Selett Vestry met 3 times during
the year and the averaBe attendance was 49

The Parish has given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northem Ireland's guldance on public
benefit to ensure that the actives entered into during the year have helped to achieve the Parish's objectives
and activitie5, a5 well as providing public benefiL

The trustees are re5ponsiblefor preparin8the Trustees, Report and the statement of receipts and payments and
statement of assets and liabilities in accordance with applicable law and regulations.
The law applioble to charities in Northern Ireland with Income of less than £250,CKXI requires the trustees to
prepare a statement of receipts and payments and a statement of a55ets and liabilities for eath financial year.
The trustees are responsible for keeplng accounting records that are suffident to show and explain the Parish's
transactions and disdose with reasonable accuracy at any time the assets and liabllities of the Parish. They are
also responsible for safeguardin8 the assets of the Parish and hence for takin8 reasonable steps for the
prevention and detectlon of fraud and other irregularitles.
