MCAG was formed In 2008 in response to residents, concerns around the envlronmental damage,
road safety, village cleanline55, anti-social behavior, and absence of community facllities in the
Village. Mallusk had Suffered from the effects of the Landfill site in the village and the increased
industrialization of the area.

meeting facility for events and activities

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFFORMANCE
MCAG has established a community base at the Academy Sports Club premise5 Wlth a long-term
lease and lobbied successfully and Secured grants for a range of environmental improvements in the
Village.
MCAG produce a quarterly newsletter and circulate to 800 households. The quarterly newsletter
helps all within the vi113ge keep track of what is happening in the area with updates regarding local
variou5 club news including Football, Runnin& Keep-fit, Badm inton etc. Regular village clean ups
and litter pick5 are held, which also become a Social event within the area. Quiz nights are held.
The annual Christmas tree light switch on event is held with a visit from Santa as well as a party for
all to include music and dancing along with refreshments.
MCAG have strongly supported the NOARC21 group, fighting the building of an incinerator close by
and have won several high court battles. We remain in close contact with management of the
nearby landfill site a5 well as council, monitoring the road and path cleanliness as well as potential
odour issues. We have made the acquaintance of the new environmental officer from NIEA due to
previous incumbent has now moved to a different department.
MCAG joined an incentive to hlghlight speed through the local village. MCAG have a speed indicator
device, sltuated withln the vlllage which is looked after and malntalned by committee members who
also submit the data downloaded from It.
Extensive enlargement to local quarry is being objected to due to feared increase In blastlng, dust,
nolse etc. affecting the local area as well as prolonged & heavy road use caused from it.
There are several proposed planning applications in the village for substantial housing estates and
MCAG continue to monitor and meet with the developers to try to ensure best outcomes for both
exlsting and potential resident5. Some of these plans are now being ererted with more to come.
The work and lobbylng done as stated above helps our core values of trying to make the village of
Mallusk a healthler, Safer and cleaner and more pleasant place to live and brlng up our children as
well as puttlng on various events to help bring the community together. We work wSth and support
the various churches, play groups and integrated prlmary school wlthln the vlllage. The
transformation of the primary school to integrated status has been a h uge success with 110 puplls
now attending.
Talks are ongoin8 Wlth regard to trying to identify more funding opportunitie5 Wlth regard to
