The Trustees present the annual report for St. James, Parish of Moy & Charlemont for the year ended
31" December 2023.
Objectives and Activities
The charitable purpose of the Church of Ireland is the advancement of religion.
The principal function of St James, Parish Church, Moy is to nurture and advance the Christian faith
through pastoral, evangelistic, social and eciimenical means. We aim to foster a sense of community
and support any who may be in need.
St Jamcs, also has custody ot. propety and records, materials and artifacts of cuLtural and religious
heritage, the maintenance of which is undertaken by the Select Vestry.
Achievements, Performance & Public Benefit
In order to fulfill the Church's mission, the parish undertakes a wide range of activities. To this worship
is central. There are two services each Sunday in the Church buÈlding with numerous and varied
additional services held throughout the year in the Parish Hall. There are services in both a traditional
and contemporary style. We also conduct baptism, marriage and funeral services.
The parish also engages in a range of pastoral activities to provide support particularly to those who are
isolated or in need. In the nornial course of events, activities include pastoral visits to hospitals, nursing
homes and residential care centres. Parishioners are routinely visited in their homes (the housebound at
least once a month), individuals and couples are prepared foi. baptism and rna￿lage, and the bereaved
are supported in their time of loss. The Rector also prepares adults and teenagers for Confirmation.
Organizations run by the parish include the Carer and Toddler Group, Siinday School, Boy's Brigade,
Youth Club, Walking Club, Badminton Club, Creche, Bowls, Mother's Union and Choir.
Approximately 250 people a week from across the community benefit from participation in these
organizations.
Expenditure is incurred in the provision of activities and the maintenance of parish buildings, facilities
and services. This includes the diocesan assessment, salaries, repairs and maintenance to church
properties and grounds, licences, compliance costs, professional fees and materials and equipment
required for effective delivery of parish activities. The Select Vestry seeks to steward our financial
resources wisely and support the work of the Church.
St James, remains committed to our Mission by supporting the work of various organizations, local and
international. These include Bishop's Appeal, NI Hospice, Crosslinks, Boy's Brigade, Irish Church
Missions & The Leprosy Mission.
Our worship services will continue to offer the best we can in terms of Anglican liturgy and music as
well as more contemporary expressions which aim to reconnect those who have become disconnected
from the church's life.
Our dedicated team of volunteer leaders seek to serve the community through the range of activities
mentioned in this report. Many of our members are very appreciative of tlie opportunities for fellowship
and spiritual growth that the church offers to them and we want to offer those opportunities to as wide
a demographic as we can.

The Parish has given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance
on public benefit to ensure that the activities entered into during the year and those planned for the
future have and will continue to help and achieve the Parish's objectives and provide a public benefit.
Financial Review
Through the continued generosity of parishioners and others together with careful budgeting and wise
stewardship of the finances, the day-to-day running costs and the expense of non-recurrent
commitments arising during the year were covered while donations to charitable causes continued.
Expenditure exceeded income in 2023 due to the ambitious and costly programme of works on the
church, s stained glass windows, which commenced in the summer of 2022 and completed in May 2023.
Thanks to a most generous bequest from a former parishioner in 2021 we have been able to cover the
cost of this work in full, together with necessary work on the exterior stonework.
Going Concern
The trustees have reviewed the budgets for the year ahead and are satisfied that there are adequate funds
in place to ensure that the Parish can continue its actlvities and the financial statements for the ye￿. end

31 December 2023 can be signed off as a going concern.
Structure, Governance and Management
Governing Documenl and Conslilution of tlie Cliftrity
Chapter III of the Constitution of the Church of Ireland governs Parishes and Parochial Organisation.
The Select Vestry members are tlie ch￿'itY Trustees.
Recruitment and Appoinlmeni of Selecl Vestry
All members of the Church of Ireland who are over the age of 18 and are either resident within the
parish or live elsewhere but have been accustomed members of the congregation for at least three
months, may register as members of the general vestty of the parish, allowing them to attend and vote
at meetings of the general vestry and to stand for electlon to the Select Vestry. Meetings of the geneial
vestry are held at least once a year. The Select Vestry is elected as part of this General Vestry meeting.
The Select Vestry will hold their positions for a period of one year. Select Vestry members may be re-
elected annually and there is no limit on the number of terms which may be served.
Pay and Remuneration
The Rector receives a stipend and office and locomotory allowances in accordance with figures
approved by the General Synod of the Church of ITeland and pension contributions and Employees
National Insurance are paid in accordance with Diocesan recommendation.
The Organist recelves payment commensurate with role and experience.

Organisational Structure
The Select Vestry is responsible for the day-to-day management of the parish. The Select Vestry
consists of the Rector. the Churchwardens, the Glebewardens and generally not more than twelve other
members of the general vestry elected at the General Vestry.
The Select Vestry is chaired by the incumbent OT Other member of the clergy officiating in the parish.
Select Vestry members are responsible for making decisions on matters of general concern and
importance to the parish including deciding how parish funds are to be applied.
The Select Vestry meets at times fixed by the members or by the diocesan synod. Special meetings
may be convened at any time by the cliairperson or the Churchwardens.
Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the Statement of Receipts and
Payments and Statement of Assets and Liabilities in accordance with applicable law and regulations.
The law applicable to charities in the Northern Ireland with income of less than £250,000 requires the
Trustees to prepare a Statement of Receipts and Payments and Statement of Assets and Liabilities for
each financial year.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the
Parish's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the assets and liabilities of the
Parish. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Parish and hence for taking
ieasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
