We celebrated Thinking Day with international crafts, made boomerangs from sticks, friendship sticks and sampled cheese, meats and treats from around the world. In March Bronze and Silver Awards were presented to one of the brownies. She had put in a lot of brilliant work on her badges and completed her Gold Award before moving on to guides in the autumn.

We did a lot of creative activities including Mother’s Day gifts, Easter baskets and bunny stick puppets. We made pop-up 3D cards and constructed shapes and towers out of food. Of course, we had to have some sticky fun too, creating our own slime! One evening we became actresses, creating moving postcard scenes through mime, and practised our broadcasting skills. We discovered how to be good leaders and worked together to solve puzzles and we built field obstacle courses to test our knowledge about respecting the Countryside Code and designed our own zoo.

With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in mind, we planned a night full of fun and games to celebrate the event. We made crowns, decorated yummy cupcakes, played games and made Jubilee beacons! We practised DIY skills by putting nails and screws into cooking apples to create smiley faces, and we learnt how to keep clothes dry at camp. As usual, we had some messy fun, creating paintings with shaving foam and food colouring!

We planned HMS Brownie’s ‘voyage around the world’, learnt how to read grid references and became robots for the night, ‘programming’ each other to do tasks. We learnt about airport customs, explored our leadership skills and rewrote our favourite games to make them even better! The term ended with a games night and we made s’mores for the first time, which were definitely a big hit!

To kickstart the autumn term we went with the Guide and Ranger units to Breckenhill Activity Centre. It was our first Residential Adventure due to the pandemic. We had so much fun doing archery, orienteering, bushcraft, kayaking, racing trikes and singing loads of campfire songs. We cannot wait for our next adventure! We have worked hard to complete the first aid badge, learning DR ABC, how to check if someone is responsive, how to call for help and the recovery position. We made our own compasses, became environmental detectives and worked outside to make a change to the environment. We worked on what our Promise in Guiding means - in preparation for making it soon.

We had a meeting dedicated to Remembrance, when we made poppy helicopters and other crafts, shared stories about our family members who served in the wars, and learnt about the role Girl Guides played. We had an outing to Fairhill Shopping Centre for a scavenger hunt. We had so much fun finding the answers and learnt some interesting facts along the way. We completed a Christmas good turn and ended the year with a trip to the cinema with the other units to see Matilda the Musical!

There was no harm flowing from the Charities purposes and there was no private benefit .
