4[th] Bangor Scout Group

12 months ending 31[st] March 2023

Trustee Report

The past year has seen the movement of the Squirrel Section fully into the Scout Association. Also, the Group has been given notice that we will no longer be meeting in the Ballyholme Methodist Church on Brooklyn Avenue, Bangor. The church is closing down and we had been offered the chance to relocate to the other side of Bangor.

With the catchment area of the Scout Group being in the Ballyholme area we have taken onboard to contact the 3 other churches in the Ballyholme area who have halls to allow a scout Group to meet.

As at the year end, we have not finalised the new home for the Scout Group.

Squirrels

The Squirrels section came in under the Scout Association during the year and the section reopened again following Covid 19 in September 2022. The section has been running activities and programme to meet the requirement of the new badge programme of scouting.

Beavers

The Beaver section has been running through the year and has been attending district and Northern Ireland Events

Cubs

The cub section has been running a full cub activity programme and has had 2 overnight camps during the year. One for the old Cubs due to move up to the Scouts and then a bigger camp for all members, both camps at Northern Ireland Scout Centre Crawfordsburn.

Scouts

The Scout section has been running a full adventurous programme both in the hall and outside. It ran 5 camps throughout the year in weeke3nd camps at Coleraine and Crawfordsburn. Also, it has run 2 overnight hike camps as part of the Gold Chief Scout Awards. In Summer 2022 it ran a weeklong activity camp at The Share Centre.

In January 2023 the Group had 14 Scouts attend the Northern Ireland Awards night at Belfast City Hall to receive the Gold Chief Scout Award, The highest award in the section.

Planning for the 2023 Summer camp to Delft in Holland.
