OUR ORGANIZATION:
PURPOSES AND BENEFITS
Scouting exists to actively engage and support youn8 people in their personal development,
empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. The beneficiaries of first
Newcastle Scout Group are children and young people in the Newcastle and wider South
East Down area and the communities to which they belong. They do this by gaining awards
and badges set up by the Scout Association. They learn knowledge and skills which will be
useful to them throughout thelr lives.
GOVERNANCE
srRucfuRE
Our governing document ts based on the Royal Charter of the Scout Assoclation, which In
turn gives authority to the By Laws of the Association and the Policy, Organisation and Rules
of the Scout As5vciation.
The group is a trust established under rules which are common to all ScoLrts. Trustees are
appointed in accordance wlth the Policy, Organisatlon and rules of the Scout Association.
OVERVIEW OF GROUP
I, Newcastle kout Group is one of the longest existing cr055 community organisations and
th
one of the oldest existing scout groups in N.1. It celebrated its 110 anniversary in 2018,
We meet in our own premises in Valentia Place. We have an ongoing varied programme of
activities for all sections of the Group. which is reviewed on an annual basis. We regularly
make use of the wonderful local natural facilities we have in Newcastle for outdoor
actlvÉties e.g. beach litter plcks, forest runs. We also have a campsite at Tipperary Woods
within walking distance from thetscout hall. All sections use this for outdoor badge work and

overnight camps throughout the year. We have good links wtth local organisations such as
the RNLI and Fire Service and have several educational visits during the year.
ANNUAL REVIEW
to end of March 2023
Membership numbers of both Scouts and Cubs remain healthy, with both groups near full
capacity. Thls Is particularly impressive with regard to the Cubs because of the Sack of a
Beaver group providing a natural feeder group. It has required a lot of additional effort from
the Cub leaders to promote the group in the community in order to build up numbers over
the past year.
Both groups have had an enjoyable, successful year working towards their badges.
Good community links have been built on and new ones started in order to help with some
of these badges.
Tipperary Wood campsite continues to be well used for outdoor skills. A trip to the Isle of
Man is planned for Summer 2023.
Repairs to the Scout hall roof were completed prior to restarting in September 2022 and this
along with repainting have made the hall a much more pleasant environment for weekly
activities.
FINANaAL REVIEW
Detalls as per attached accounts.
The largest expenditure this year was the roof repair cost. The cost of this was met by the
Lottery fund grant whith had been awarded the previous year.
There are currently no outstanding debts for the group. There Is over £9IX)O in the bank, a
good contingency fund if any further repairs required.
