About us
We're Scouts and everyone's welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Every week we give almost half a million people aged 6-25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.
At a time when communities are becoming more divided, we bring people together. When many young people are struggling to find purpose and belonging, Scouts helps them develop skills, confidence and a sense of hope. We inspire positive futures and help young people find their place in the world by developing the character, employability and practical skills they need to succeed.

What do Scouts do?
Scouts take part in a wide range of activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for everyone. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.
What do volunteers do?
Helping young people develop skills for life is only possible thanks to our team of adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a local community-based Group, to being a charity Trustee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship.

1[st] Moira Scout Group – Year Review
This submission to the Chairty Commission and to Armagh District Trustee Board is later than usual and it is due to the Scout Group’s inactivity in operational and governance matters. In September 2024, South Region (of Scouts NI) and Armagh District Trustee Board took a proactive approach in meeting with the established leadership team of 1[st] Moira to review the Scout Group and assist with mandatory compliance to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and the Scouting policy.
From a Scouting perspective, 1[st] Moira Scout Group continued to provide key opportunities and experiences to young people, with the 2024 census figures showcasing a total of 62 youth membership across the four sections of Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
My personal thanks go to St. John’s Parish for their allowance of the Scout Group meeting in the fantastic premises, located in the centre of Moira. To the parents, guardians and family members, thank you for continuing to support the Scout Group in every way, it truly means a lot to the leaders to know they have your support. Finally, to the leaders, who give countless hours to programme planning, actioning and all the background activities required to allow for Scouting to happen – it truly makes a difference.

1[st] Moira: Finances
Financial Overview
No two years are ever the same in Scouting!
Income this year totalled £4,096.84. This was higher than the 2023 total and showcased through the increase of membership subscriptions (£3,942.84).

Upon noting when the intake of most of the subscriptions were processed for the previous year, this resulted in a batch from the previous year end of March 2023 and also those included within the March 2024 processing.

There was no EA contribution within this financial year.
Expenditure totalled £3,099.86 within the financial year, in comparison to £1,602.64 in the 2023 financial year. This is due to when capitation was paid to the UK Scout Association (£1,332.00), increase costs towards activities (£1,019.22).
The (planned) surplus for the year was £996.98, while our funds on 31 March totalled £6,105.07 – still a very healthy total.
