11 is my responsibility and privilege as Chair of the Fund and on behaff of my fellow Directors lo
provide the Annual Report and Accounts for the Fund for the year ended 30 April 2025.
The Fund was e$lablished in 2015 to provide Bursaries for pupils from the Boys. Model moving to third
level education and $0 this year 15 the 10th year of the Fund. During that lime, we have seen the Fund
grow considerably and continue lo achieve ils objectlves. The Btrard of the Fund is responsible for
ensuring that the Fund continues lo exercise 118 full range of regulatory responsibilitie$ and we believe
that. lo the be51 of our knowled9e, we compiled wth all such requiremen15 in 2024.2025. The Fund
does not however have any staff and so il is the responsibility of the Officers lo carry out the roles
which staff might otherwise undgrtake, In that centext the Board would want lo place on record the
excellent contribuliony ol Mark Gilmore 88 Vice Chair, Bryan Kealing as Company Secretary and
Iliam INilson as Treasurer. In addltion, Roy Adair, h8vin9 stepped down as Treasurer, ensured th81
th• tl8n3ition to the new Treasurer was as efficlenl a8 possible.
During the yèar the Board, under the directlon of Mark Gllmore, al80 undertook 8 major review of how
oparales and agreed lo move lo a position where the 8oard will continue lo have direct re8ponslbillly
for kèy issues guch 89 slrglegiG direction. regulatory compliance. financial matters and Board
membershlp, vthilsl an Operation5 Group. Chaired by Mark Gilmore, was formed lo undertake the day
to day actions require(I for the effects've, èfficient and transparent oper8tion of the fund. Thi5 indude5
oversight of for fund raising aclivilies, marketing, event planning. data protection, social media and the
preparatlon of a sutte of documents for Board decision andlor approval. The Board is mog19raleful lo
Bryan Kealing who has given a very conslderable amount of lime to the preparation of important pollcy
documents and his Honorary Secrètsry dulles. Dudng the year, the 8oard had 4 meeting8,
Given that the purpose of the Fund is to provide Bursaries, the Board would want lo report that In the
year8 Irom establishment up lo 30 April 2025. 47 boys recelved Bursaries totalling some £98,000.
Slnce the Fund was eslablish8d, we have been greatly encouraged by ￿ things. The first 1$ the
impact which the Bursaries have had on the boy5 who have been suc¢e88ful. The ￿￿001 18 in regular
contact with the boys and il is so encouraging to hear from them about the help which the bur9aries
have been in in Ihelr education joumey. To dale, every boy who has been awarded and accepted
burs8ry has gone on to complete h15 third levol qualification. The Fund is a150 working with the school
to help maintain a data base of all the Bursary reclpienls. The second encouragement 1$ the
continuing support of the donors lo the Funit, both those who glve regular monthly financial
contributions and those who give one-off donations. The Fund continues lo consider how to extend
both means of donation, but also want to record our sincere thanks to all our donors.

One of tl)e Important and key succe$ses of the Fund is the relationship with the school and the Board
wants again to place on record our huge thanks lo Mary Montgomery, the Principal and also a Board
member. her Secretary Joanne Clarke and Kerry Deehan who has responsibility for loading material
onto the Fund website. Under Mary Montgomery'8 excellent leadership, the school goes from strength
to strength, and the Fund is very pleased lo play some part in supporting the staff and the boys and in
ensurin9 that the boys from the school can fulfil their potential through third level education. We are
proud to be associated with the gchool and lo be able lo support all that il does foir ils pupils. The
Boaid is also exploring how and In what ways the Fund might fvrther support the school. This Work Is
ntinuing and will require further detailed thought and planning, as well as legal and regulatory
considerations and the ch8rth.es Commission approval.
We are pleased to report that as of the 30th of Aprtl 2025, the Unreslricl8d Funds were £100,176
12024.. £96,465) an increase from the posllion as Of the 30th of April 2024, having accounted for
bursaries and expenges. The Board annually reviews 115 re8erves and considers them lo be fi'nancially
prudent. In keeping wllh our fiduclary responsibilllies, the Directors re-invested port of the reserves in
higher interest rale account. The Directors continue to believe that the slate of the funds 18 sufflcienl
al present. glven the increa$e8 in thè number of awards and also the Board's declared position of
Seeking lo have sufficient funds lo achleve an endowment position, We wll continue lo revise and
implement our financial strategy.

Objèctives and actlvltle8
The charity's objects 8re lo advance and promote the eclucalion of the pupils at Belfast Boys, Model
School by providing bursarles or other financial assislanco to pupils who progress to third level
educats'on.
Art5ing from the purpose9, our acb'vities focus on two key strand5', lund raising and the creation of
Glear, fair and oquilable process for the making of the awards.
As noted in lasl year's report the Board set an objecllve lo make additional annual awards for HND
and Higher-Level Apprenuceships.
It is also Important to $8y that the existence of the Fund and Its core objectlV08 were agreed wth the
sthool Board of Governor5. as was the full pa￿cIpatIon of the then Principal, Alr Alan Logan as
Dlreclor of th& Fund. The current Principal, Ms Mary Montgomery. is a membef of the Board and fully
endorses the work of the Fund.
The directors have p8id du• rtsgard to guidance i88ued by the Charity Commission In deciding what
advrtles the cha￿tY Should undertake.

Our activities have been shaped by the nfjed to raise sufficianl funds to ensurg Ihal the awards, when
made. can be fully funded for the tenure of each bursary. 11 wa8 delemined by the Board that,
initially, three bursarieg Should be awarded each year.
The Board was of the vlew that #wards should be perfomance driven and was grateful that the School
endorsèd this approach and agreed to draw up the crilerla agaSn81 which the first three gward$ would
be made.
The 8chool'8 proposal whlch was fvlly endorsed and agreed by the Board w89 10 target three key
areas of Study in the school, namely." STEM subjects lincluding Technology. Mathematics and
Sclencel, Voc8llonal subjects (including IT, Traveirrourism and Public S¢rvi¢el and General Sub￿￿*
Ilncluding History, Politics, Medla Studies and Artl.
Further, it has been our ambltkin lo be able lo commtt lo the award of bur8•rie$ some years ahead
and whilst this reinforced the vlew that three was the cO￿e¢l number of wards to 8tsrt ￿th. we have
taken action lo increase the number of bursaries to be awarded.
The school ensured that every pupil eligible for 8 bursary wo$ aware of the crilerla from the beglnnlng
of the school year. Following examination ￿6￿1t$ in August each year, Ihree bursarles are awarded
to the three pupils who best met the criteria outlined above. Each bursary in total amounts 10 £3,600
and is paid over a perbod of three years dependent upon continuing academic attendance in further
education by the pupils concèmed. In addition, each year the Board considers the awar(J of one-off
awards on an ad-hoc basis.

The Directors faiged funds during the year by direct contsd wlth a number of fomier pupils, who were
advised of the existence and purpose of the Fund. and then invited lo contribute by a one-off gift. or by
regular monthly donations through Direct Debil oi both.
It is the policy of the charity that unrestricted funds which have not been desl9naled for a speclfic use
should be grown lo allow the charity lo adopt an endowmttnl approach lo funding that is looking to
providing funding frorn investment income,
The directors consider that reseryes al this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop In
funding. they will be able to continue the charity's CUTrenl activities whlle consideration ig given to
ways in whlch additional funds may be raised. This level of reserves has been mainlalned throughout
the yoar.
During the year. the Fund raised £21,89512024.' £31,822) from donations. gift aid and bank intere8t
and after paySng and providing for committed bursartes and expense8 added £3,711 12024.. £5,254110
unrestricted funus which now total £100,17612024'. £98,465). This ensures that the business can be
funded In the yegrs ahead.
The directors are pleased with the conllnuing support from both existing and new donors and believ¢
that the Fund has good potential lo grow In the future.
