Policies
Statement of compliance
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Accounting and
Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing
their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Irela nd IFRS 1021 (effective l Ja n uary 20161 (Charities SO RP IFRS 10211, the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 and the
Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
Basls of preparation
The accounts are prepared under the historica I costs convention on an accrua Is basis.
Exemptlon from preparing a cash flow statement
The charity opted to early adopt Bulletin I published on 2 February 2016 and have therefore
not included a cash flow statement in these financial statements.
Revenue recognition
Revenue is recognised upon receipt and the main activities of the society include:

Nature and purpose of Funds

There are no restricted funds or endowments,
Going concern
The Trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties a bout the charity's 3 bility to contin ue
a5 a going concern.
Taxation
The charity is a registered charity and is therefore exempt from taxation,
Trustee remuneration, benefit5 and expenses
No trustees are paid any remuneration or receive any other benefit5 from the charity. Expenses
a re only p3 id to refund expenditure in relation to charity business.

3 Ards & North Down Borough Council funded the £IQO speaker cost for W. M¢CulloughJs talk on
10th November 2022 refunded In the year to 31st December 2023 and an £80 partial cost in relatlon
to the Speaker for an Ulster Scots themed talk by A McReynolds.
4 No fee was requested by the speaker an 14 September 2023 (Jennifer IYLearyl. The average
f.ee per speaker Is £6.0.
5 BHS pald rent of £240 for 8 meetings at £30 each to The Fountaln Centre at Queen'5 Parade
Methodlst Church. Rent was paid in advance for the cancelled meeting of 9 March 2023 and the
Church'sTreasurerwlll 3llDWthe suclety tsne rnteting free of ch3rge In 2024.
6 Caterlng was provlded follo.wing the AGM and meetlng of 13 April 2023 In honour of a vislt
by the Borough's Mayor, Karen Dougl?s.
7 A donatlon of £500 was made to Open House Festlval Ltd on 5th July 2023.
On 28th October 2023 a further donatlon of £100 was made to 'Dlscover Groomsporf following an
outlng by members to the vi113ge,
Both bodies work to preserve heritage which alm the So¢lety support4.
Secretary s expenses Include admini5tratlon costs for production of programmes for visitors,
phDrocopylng and uthergeneral costs In connectlun wlth the soclety.
9 Treasurer's expenses include administration costs for postagei photocopylngi Stationery and
other general costs in connection with the society.
