This year was the second year back for 6th Bangor Squirrels and
we are still going strong with 14- 16 members regularly
attending. We meet most Friday nights starting in early Sept

centre for Christmas at Balloo, Ardnavalley to join the rest of 6th
Bangor for a fun day and Crawfordsburn scout centre for our

Cubs

This year again our focus was more about getting Cubs “back out there” and we were able to secure Clandeboye Estate for us to have our meetings. It also gave the Cubs a chance to explore outside, bond and enjoy themselves (weather permitting) We tried making smores, heating sausages and heating chocolate bananas. Played on the assault course and tried to teach them how to make fires. We attended the Christmas carol service, had a Christmas party in Elite Archery and McDonalds for food (which was a great success)

We had a group camp with the Scouts. It was a weekend at Ardnavalley where the Cubs camped on camp beds in a large hall. Saturday was taken up with high ropes – inflatables and BB Guns target practice.

On average we had approx. 24 cubs with 5 Adult leaders – 3 young leaders.

Scouts

It was another very busy year for the 6[th] Bangor Scouts meeting most Friday nights and enjoying a number of camps and outings. Over the summer break (2023) we had an excellent summer camp in Cladagh Glen scout centre Enniskillen, enjoying canoeing, building a bridge over the river using pioneering poles, visited the marble arch caves, Cuilcagh boardwalk trail (stairway to heaven) and many competitive volleyball games.

Our first camp of the new year was in Crawfordsburn scout camp, we then had a November camp at the school house in the Mournes. Our Christmas trip was to a rowdy Belfast Giants Ice Hockey match, then in January we enjoyed the district ice breaker hike. In April we had our group camp in Ardnavally scout

centre with all the 6[th] Bangor groups in attendance, we then visited the Mournes again for a second camp in May allowing us to get into the hills for a hike. We attended the North Down district camp at Crawfordsburn scout centre in June which was a great success, and we ended the year with a trip to the inflatable park at Lets Go Hydro. Throughout the year we worked towards badges teaching the scouts life skills and playing plenty of fun games along the way. Over the summer (2024) we travelled to Delft scout centre in the Netherlands, going to a bouldering centre, climbing through the tree tops on high ropes, surfed and played volleyball at the beach, cycled over 50km to the Horn of Holland and took a day trip to Amsterdam with a boat tour around the city.

On average approximately 28 Scouts with 4 Leaders.
