ANNUAL REPORT FOR AGE CONCERN 2017
Charity No NIC103984
"Drop In'
The year got off to a slow start as weather and illness kept numbers down attending the daily tea and coffee mornings. Thursday is the only morning we do not open. Average attendance per week is approximately 20. The ‘drop in' opens from 10.00am to 12 noon. Ona rare occasion 2 males attend but the majority of our members are women. It is a lifeline for many of the women who would otherwise be in the house on their own. They enjoy the company and informal chat over a cup of tea or coffee.
Only 8 ladies went on the annual holdiday. This was in July for 5 days. The trip was with Highland Heritage. The group chose the Oban tour and thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. It was during the really good weather which was an added bonus.
We had our usual Christmas meal in The Curran Court hotel in Larne on 13™ December at 1.00 pm. A smaller number attended this year — 12 ladies but an enjoyable time was had by all.
Thank you to the ladies who volunteer on a daily basis to provide a warm, clean environment and tea and biscuits to all who call. Without these volunteers Age Concern, Larne would not be able to operate.
Knitting Group
The knitting group continues to have a healthy number attending. The average weekly number is 14. The group meet for 2 hours every Tuesday afternoon. The ladies knit baby cardigans and blankets for sale to help fund the running of Age Concern Larne. They also knit for charity, this year knitting; smoothie hats, premature baby cardigans and dog blankets. They also knit baby items to order on occasions for members of the public when asked. It is a lively afternoon with much talking and activity and of course a cup of tea.
Thankyou to the ladies who organise the afternoon, make the tea, and clear up.
Walking Group
The walking group is a vibrant activity each Tuesday morning. The Group Leader is Ann Harris who continues to dedicate time and effort into the weekly walks. Her work with the group is to be commended. She provides a varied and well planned route each week. The walkers enjoy the exercise and social interaction which is helping keep them healthy.
.
This year 38 planned walks were arranged, 3 were cancelled due to inclement weather. The average attendance was 48 walkers. The walkers completed:

Unfortunately during the summer period Elaine Blackburn gave up her position as a committee member due to work commitments.
