Meeting programme
The association’s monthly meeting programme is a core activity which contributes greatly to the success enjoyed by the association. In the year to December 2021 only two meetings were held due to the Covid pandemic. No committee meetings were held due to Covid.
Attendance across the meetings was 50.
Our guest speakers are always a highlight of the programme. We were fortunate that Mark Wallace was able to attend on both occasions, giving a detailed talk on the year in beekeeping over two parts. We did not use the Observation House for these meetings due to social distancing. Instead we booked the Community Centre in Ahoghill.
Community access and outreach
We successfully ran a preliminary beekeeping course on Zoom attended by 12 candidates. This consisted of 8 evening classes and 2 apiary practical demonstrations followed by an examination in the apiary. The previous preliminary candidates from 2020 were also examined at that time. In total 33 candidates received the new Ulster Beekeepers’ Association Level One in Beekeeping Certificate.
During the year we managed to accrue 200 page likes on Facebook.
Membership
At 1 December 2021 membership of the association was 52. New members during the year numbered 12.
Accommodation
We painted the exterior of the observation house.
Financial Review
The year ended with a general balance of £10,992.42 compared with £8795.21 for the same date last year.
Detailed accounts can be found attached.
Rent remains the same – a peppercorn rent of £1 per annum.
Membership income decreased from £1276.00 to £668.00. This was because we decided to give members a Covid holiday and only charged half price.
Guest speaker expenses amounted to £40.00.
Bank charges were zero.
Membership fees were decreased during the year to £10.00 as a result of a reduced number of meetings during the Covid pandemic.
Stock
As of 1 December 2021 the association held a stock of beekeeping items totalling £1930.51.
Gifts and support in kind
In assessing the finances and assets of the Association it must be noted that many members and trustees give a great deal of support in time. The association apiary is tended in a voluntary capacity and was used for the UBKA Level One in Beekeeping Examination. Housekeeping and maintenance of the Observation House is also given by volunteers.
Funds materially in deficit
As at December 1 2021 the Association had no fund in material deficit.
Approved and adopted by a meeting of the Executive Committee on 26 November 2021.
