Section meetings take place weekly during term-time, following a structured programme of age-related games and activities, to engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. The Group has had a busy year. The Squirrels took part in the following Group activities Cooking - biscuit faces, fruit kebabs, pancakes, gingerbread men and buns; Chinese New Year and RSPB bird watch; Remembrance Day and St. Patrick’s Day activities and church services; Craft nights at Christmas, Mothers’ Day and Easter; Celebrated World Book day with PJs and hot chocolate. Trip to library for stories and crafts - earning Story time badge; Built towers, dens and things with Duplo, earning our Brilliant Builder badge; Visit by ‘Debutots’ for some drama, songs and dancing; Infinity adventure park at Christmas; Visit by ‘Eurekaseekers’, earning the Scientist badge; Visit by ‘Relax with Nikki’ to talk about our mental health and emotions earning the Feel Good badge; Visit by ‘Artie Annie’ to do messy play; We had a Coronation Party and made crowns; Visit to Ballydown Farm to see where our milk comes from; Putting up tents and cooking sausages and ‘smores’; We held our end of year parents’ and awarded 6 Squirrel Acorn badges. The Beavers took part in the following Group activities......... For the Faith badge, Ava, the Youth Co-ordinator, took us on a tour of the church and the new Beavers made their promise; ‘Jurassic Ark Encounters’ visited the Beavers and Guides with snakes, lizards, tortoises and a snapping turtle. We had a bug hunt and took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch; The vet, Marcus White, visited to show some kit used by vets and x-rays of some of his animal patients;

For the Communicator badge, Freda taught the phonetic alphabet and set some challenges; Cinema visit to IMS at Christmas with District Beavers & Squirrels to see “Lyle Lyle Crocodile”; Visit to Gilford Community Centre – football & bouncy castle; Built bridges with newspaper; learned knots & how to roll scarves; Learned about keeping fit and healthy and made posters to promote healthy living as part of the Health & Fitness badge; PSNI came along to talk about the equipment they use to keep us and themselves safe; Discussed and agreed Colony Rules & held Log Chews to find out what current activities the Beavers like and their suggestions for future activities; For the International Activity badge, Shelly Dowds held a French night, teaching us some words and songs and played games with French instructions; Crafts – Snowmen biscuits, penguin decorations, bird feeders, magic stars for St Patrick’s Day, flowers for Mothers’ Day, tealight holders for the Coronation; Easter Egg Hunt & parachute games; Nature trail/park visit; Sleepover in the Church hall for the Nights Away Stage 1 badge – putting up tents, cooking marshmallows for ‘smores’, games, craft and a movie. Sponsored Cycle/Scoot/Run – we raised £785 for B+ charity and presented the cheque to Sara Watson at our end of year awards night. Throughout the year, we worked towards the 6 Challenge badges At our end of year award presentation we awarded 10 Chief Scout Bronze Awards. The Cubs took part in the following Group activities.......... For Remembrance Day we had a visit from Ian Burns, who spoke to the Cubs about World War 1; ‘Mini First Aid’ came to visit Cubs and they completed their Emergency Aid stage 1 and 2 Badges;

Visit from ‘Infinity Martial Arts’ who taught the Cubs some moves and how to defend themselves; Visited the church and Ava worked with us on the My Faith and World Faith badges. Trips to Infinity Adventure Park in December and snow tubing in January; Cubs completed the new Money Skills badge; ‘Relax with Nikki’ visited, focusing on our mental health and emotions; 12 Cubs took part in a walk along the tow path from Scarva to Portadown; Cubs were busy in the kitchen making toasted sandwiches, fruit salad, pancakes and buns; We completed the International badge, visiting different countries around the world from within the church hall and we made our own pizzas; Easter Egg Hunt and Scavenger Hunt; Since the Easter break, lots of our activities have been outside. We have worked on camp craft putting up tents, cooking, outdoor games and completed the Athletics and Road Safety badges. 15 cubs attended Cub Camp in Lorne 5th-7th May and had a great weekend. They did archery, zip line, Gladiator and Flintstone Challenge, orienteering, wide games, campfire and also celebrated the King's Coronation. 8 cubs achieved their Chief Scout Silver Award. The Scouts took part in the following Group activities......... Scouts started by completing their Activity Badge and Team Building Tasks; They were taught Map reading and navigation skills; Hike and fire-lighting at Lissummon railway tunnel in October. The night activity session was enjoyed by all Scouts and ended with soup and ‘smores’; In November, the Scouts carried out knife skills and also did knot work, learning about different fixings and lashings; Fire-lighting skills in March with sausages cooked on an open fire; A night navigation session took place in April with Scouts participating in team activities and navigation;

After Easter, we had various team games outside in the
church grounds, including football, rounders, tug of war and
navigation skills.
Fun Nights- Golf driving range (November), Infinity
Adventure Park (December), and Troop Forums
(periodically throughout the year).
As a group, we attended the Remembrance Day and St.
Patrick’s Day youth services in the church.
We also completed the 24-hour relay walk at Craigavon
Lakes in August to raise money for the B+ charity
Funds are allocated to activities and events that are both
enjoyable and encourage the young people to become more
independent and self-reliant, developing teamwork and
skills for life.
