CHAIRMANS REPORT 2024
Banbridge and Moira group continue to muddle along but still suffer from repercussions of Covid. The change of venue and day, resulting in the loss of several volunteers means we are now operating on a much smaller level. In June we were able to take our riders to Laurelview EC for a lovely day out. After several weeks of sunshine, the weather returned to the normal blustery conditions which meant yet another pick indoors! Laurel view couldn’t have been more welcoming providing us with super ponies and facilities. Sheep and duck feeding followed and a lamb even joined us for lunch – not in a culinary form!
We have invited many of the original volunteers to our end of year gymkhana in June, and even roped some in to judge and scribe. It reminded us of the social side of RDA where friendships y began and it was lovely to see many faces after several years. All the riders went home laden with prizes and smiles!
We now have four riders, with the new arrival of Noah, who has enlightened our group. Our other riders are “old faces” who continue to enjoy the benefits of riding for the general health and wellbeing. We are indebted to several parents who volunteer as side walkers each week. Without them we could not operate.
The group is facing a huge problem from September. Gail our longstanding treasurer is retiring from the group and we only have 6 regular volunteers. Sickness, combined with grandchildren and holidays has led to the cancellation or rides which has been very disappointing. We endeavour to ensure that the cancellations are fairly distributed.
Over the summer, we aim to contact other groups who ride at Lusk equestrian in the hope that some other their volunteers might be able to help out on Tuesday mornings.
