Year end 2022-2023
1[st] Rathfriland Scout Group have had another successful year. We have been happily building on the foundation we built last year when we focus on our scout values and promise and invested time in getting to know one another as we do year on year.
We’ve seen another increase in numbers across all sections, however we struggle to recruit new leaders.
We had some great campfire sessions and plenty of marshmallows have been consumed. We have also learned that it is much easier to master using a compass when the compass is work and almost impossible when half of them are slightly dodgy.
As a group we explored cultural heritage with our first burns night celebration complete with a local piper highland dancing and a feast of haggis neeps and tatties.
We held our first Scout Camp in August 2022 at Crawfordsburn Scout Centre with 4 young people attended as we joined 1[st] Poyntzpass Scout Group to enable 2x leaders to obtain their Nights Away Permits. Activities included crate climbing, canoeing, zip lining, caving activities, campfire songs.
Scouts hiked up Slievenaslat in February 2023 and planted trees in March 2023.
