CHAIRPERSONS REPORT 2024-2025
I am pleased to present the Chairpersons Report for the year 2024-2025.
During the year the Choral Society continued to fulfil its charitable purpose of promoting choral music and drama, and providing opportunities for its members to rehearse and perform for the enjoyment of the wider community.
The Society held regular rehearsals ( 3 times per week) and presented two public musical shows which were well received by audiences and participants alike.
The committee met as required during the year to oversee the activities and finances of the society, and to ensure it was managed in accordance with its constitution and charity regulations.
Following a review of the constitution the AGM was moved from June to September. Marie-Therese Ross , who had been acting Interim Chairperson, was conveyed in as Chairperson as well as new committee. Four previous members stepped down for personal reasons.
We carried out lots of events during 2024-25. Our two main productions were:
Footloose 13-16 November 2024
Sound of Music 25-29 March 2025.
We are currently rehearsing for upcoming production in November 2025.
We have been in local newspapers and convened a radio interview to promote shows and the work of the society.
Our youth are fully involved in all productions and events. We had a weeklong Easter Camp in April and then the two week summer workshop, High School Musical, which culminated in a performance for family and friends.
We carried out some fundraising/social events throughout the year: three quizzes, a Christmas bingo/bake off, participated in the annual St Patricks Day parade for Newry, Mourne and Down Council in Downpatrick , and had a watch movie party. We also have a monthly bonus ball competition. Our end of year celebration was enjoyed by members, family and friends at the Lakeside Inn.
We also present awards throughout the year. The Monica Fitzsimons Youth award was presented to Amelia Mc Keown Nov 2024.
The Keohane Shield presented to those who go above and beyond for the society was presented to Emma Cullen 2024.
We pay for adjudication for our main productions, and I am pleased to say that one of our youth, was nominated and then presented with an AIMS award at the annual awards in Killarney for Best Youth in an Adult Show for her role in Sound of Music.
The Society’s finances remain satisfactory and the committee managed funds responsibly to support ongoing musical activities. Full details are included in the annual accounts report.
Looking ahead the committee aim to continue delivering high quality performances for the surrounding community, while culturing growth of all our cast throughout, and maintain membership and financial stability.
I would like to thank our production teams, committee, volunteers and supporters for their commitment and enthusiasm throughout the year.
