Lisbum and District Scout Couwil 2023 Annual General Meeting Harmony Hill Presbyterian Church Hall Wednesday 30th August 2023 at 7.3Dpm District Commissioners Report Dlstrfct Membershlp: The membership of Lisburn District Scout Council for 2023 census was recorded as follows: Squirrels- 129 Beavers- 169 Cubs- 198 Scouts - 239 Explorers (including young leaders)- 85 Network- 19 Total Youth Membershlp- 839 Total Adult Membershlp- 279 We are continually recelvlng enquiries for membership throu8h the Scout Nl website & local social media platforms and very hopeful our numbers w.111 increase for the 2DI..4frn*W%. In some sectlons we have watting list for joining which will be addressed. All our youth members are continually achlevlng top awards in thelr sections which deserves great credit to the youth & their leaders, the following awards have been recorded on the census: Squirrels Acorn - 2 Beavers Bronze Award - 23 Cubs Silver Award.- 21 Explorers DOE Bronze- 7 With regard to recruitin& Scout Headquarters through Vicky Flannigan is holding a recruitment roadshow at Tescos Bentrim Road on Saturday 23rd September between 2-4pm. this is a great opportunity for us to sell ourselves to the public & hopefully young people. I am hoping our district youth commissioner will be presenti please also feel free to send available young leaders as well. Distrirt Events: We held our annual St Georges Day parade at Hillhall, our first since covid which was well attended & during the service a new scout flag was dedicated by our Chaplin and will now form part of future parades. We have had numerous district events throughout the year for each of the sections which will be detailed in my ADC reports to follow. This would be a good time to thank all my ADCs, without them the various district events would not have happened. Our district woodlands are used continually by each section & also for district ev.ent

Many of our leaders have undertaken & completed the tomahawk cowse whith wp..w4 Xt the woodland& I would like to thank the on-going efforts of Phli ' Trimbl< the WoodYaYJd 4AJ 4.1?. support of the executive in the continuin8 improvements to the woothanll& l.•m Ill￿1 this asset can only help with scouting in the district and the wider Lisburn Community and at some stage also scouting outside our district. It is intended to hold a full district event for all sections in the near future including a district overnight camp for scouts & exploiers Lisburn District was represented at the Queens lying in state & we were also represented at the Kings Coronation, well done to all those that took part. Lisburn was represented at the recent World Jamboree which unfortunately made the news headlines for the wrong reasons, l am not sure if they were just as poor as portrayed but hopefully we will be given more detailed information about the jamboree by our own representatives at some stage soon. Mandatory Tralnlng: Our noncompliance level for mandatory Safeguarding & Safety is contlnually monltored an in some periods of the year has reached unsatisfactory levels which is being addressed by our County Commissioner, GSLS, Janet & myself. I received our latest district figures from headquarters yesterday and presently we have approximately 35 leaders who need to update their 1st Response or Safety or Safeguarding which is a good improvement, I would ask all leaders to please check on compass thelr own details. We have to date held 4No 1st response courses with another being held on Saturday 23, September here in Harmony Hill, I think we have approx. 8 spaces left, if you wish to avail of a place please email Janet or myself. Leaders Long SeThlce Presentatlons: Throughout the year many long service awards were presented as well as woodbeads & 2 Medals of Merit. Thankyous: As District Commissioner I wish to thank all leaders In the Dlstrict for thelr tlme, effort and dedication to Scouting in Lisburn District without leaders we don't have scouting. committees: Appointments Committee, Training and Nights Away Advisors, Bothy Committee, Woodland Team . Executive Committee & my ADC Team. l also wish to thank my 3 wise men Harold, Len & Les they keep me hopefully in tha rioht direction with their much valued advice.
