The trustees present their report with the fmancial statements of the company for the year ended 31 December
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE, MANAGEMENT AND OKIECTIVES OF THE CHARITY
Transplant Sport Northern Ireland (TSNI) is a registered charity with the Charity Commission for Northem Ireland
(NICIOJ853). The charity was registered from 2J February 2016.
Transplant Sport Northem Ireland is governed by a constitution.
A Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance of the charil!. They are recruited and appointed
for the skills and experience tha( they can bring to the managemenl of ihe chariN' and for their commitment to the
positive delivery of the charity objectives of Transplani Sport Nl. The Board meets on a regular basls.
The Association is esthblished to provide relief and preserve aTJd proieci ihe health of individuals in Northem
Ireland who have had or are ￿'aItIng on a lifesaving organ or stem cell transplani aiid in particular-
(a) to provide sporting and recreational activities: and facilities in the interests of social welfare, to rehabilitate
such individuals and improve their condition of life- and
(b) to advance the education of the public about trdnsplants and promote human organ and tissue donation for
the relief of persons in need of trdnsplanls.
ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
202J was a much more action packed )'ear than previous vears which had been heavily affected b), Covid. There
was a very positive start lo the }'ear with Daithis Law flnally being delivered. The change in the law to a soft opt
out system was fully suppor(ed by TSNI and a number of members were involved in campaigning for this
change for some time. Huge credit to Daithi's family for finall), getting this over the line: TSNI owe a huge debt
of gratitude to them. A number of members atlended the launch eveni on l June 2023 at Stornlont, the date the
law offically came into force.
Three TSNI athletes were selected to compete in the World Transplant Games in Perth, in April 2023, Richie
Sheerin (cvcling), Kathryn Glover (sw'imming and triathlon) and Orla Smjth (track). They were joined by
Henry Brown, doctor of Team GB & NI. Richie came away M'ith a bronze medal in the individual Iokm time
trial , a gold medal in the 20kn1 time trial and a bronze in the 30km Road race. Kathryn won 2 silvers in the
loom breaststroke and the 4 x 50m freestvle relay. gold in the 50m breaststroke and a silver in the 4 x 50rn
medley relay. KathryTr also excelled on the field with a personal best and silver in the discus. Orla Smyth took
gold in the 400m and silver in the 800m. TSNI are very proud of their achieven]ent5.
TSNI held an infortnation day in April to attract new members and advise of all the details surrounding the
British Transplant Ganies. It was a great turn out and ended in a number of new ly transplanted people
encouraged in to the fold. It meant TSNI had a la￿.e nuinber of neM".ly transplanted athletes attending the British
Games for the first time.
TSNI'S football team also hosied a friendl), match againsi the ROI transplant team in Belfast in June followed
by a BBQ. li was a fantastic day not just as a sporting occasion bui for the opportunity to catch up with
transplanted friends from down south. TSNI'S football ieam also joined the IFA Disability Inclusion league and
competed on a monthly basis with various teams from around NI.
The highlight of this year was the Transplani Games in Coventry in July. There were new members on board
and the team spirit and camardderie was second to none. It was great to have a number of new members join the
team which TSNI hope will stay for years to come. The team achieved 13 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze medals.
However, the pinnacle of the Games was being reunited with TSNI'S trdnsplant family and meeting transplanted
friends from the rest of the UK.
TSNI marked Organ Donation Week in September by taking part in the virtual race for recipients where
members ran, hiked, cycled and swam to log miles to raise awareness of Organ Donation. TSNI were delighted
to finish second in Northern Ireland for the Miles clocked up.

A number of TSNI'S members carried out various forms of fundraising throughout the Vear and the TSNI is very
grateful for all the funds received from members. TSNI H'ere again welcomed to the Irish Mllers Meet at the
Mary Peters Track. where Kaffe O sold its goods for our benefit.
TSNI also held a Quiz night in Shandon Park Golf Club in October m-.here Andrew. Weir Th'as officially presented
with his Spirit of the Games trophy. Hilden Bowling club also hosted TSNI for their Christmas dinner and
presented TSNI with a cheque for £1,300 which their members had rasied.
Other activities throughout the year included park runs:cycle and s￿l[n meet5, pub quizzes and of course the
Annual Thanksgiving service organised by the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund.
TSNI look forward to another great year and are entering 2024 with renewed optimism that TSNI 15 going from
strength to strenuth. As always, TSNI hope to recruit more tnembers and 5UPPOrt them. It is hoped that more
members become actively involved in the committee, fundraising activitie5 and most imwrtantly continue to
demonstrate to the w'orld the benefits of oroan transplaniaiion through sport.
PUBLIC BENEFIT
The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commissioner of Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit and
consider that operations continue to be undertaken in furtherance of our sthied public benefits being=
To provide sporting and recreational activitie5 and facilities in the interests of social ￿'elfare, to rehabilitate
such individua15 and itnprove their condition of life. The benefits derived froTn this purpose are the improved
health and fitness of all participants and allom's individuals the opportunity to connect with people who have
similar health issues. These benefits are evidenced throuJ the Doctors and nurses who carry out organ
transplanthiion and our also members of our association. The hospitals openl>' encourage patients to
participate in sport as members of Transplani Sport Nl. Social events and sporting activities promoted by
ourselves on an annual basis are well supported and positive feedback received.
To advance the education of the public regarding transplants and to promote human organ and tissue donation
for the relief of patients in need of a transplant. The direct benefits ￿,hICh floTh from this purpose are the
increase in the number of people signing up to the organ donor registrar and the 5ub5equent increase in the
number of organs that become available for transplantation and the number of lives saved. There is a150
benefit for the organ donor families who are comforted in the kno￿.]edge of the number of live5 their loved
ones have saved. These benefits can be evidenced through governtnent figures which clearly Show how
sporting events positively influence the public Signing the organ donor registrar. Evidence is also available
from the positive feedback received from the Organ Donor Fatnily support groups.
FINANCIAL REPORT
The 2022 accounts were independently examined by Baker Tilly Mooney Moore with no areas of concern
reported. Subsequently. these were uploaded io CCNI (Charities Commission) as part of the anTJual reporting
process.
The balance of the TSNI account on I" January 2023 was £40.810.21.
Throughout the year, total income was over £27.000 and total expenditure was approximately £34,500 giving a
closing bank balance on the 31, December 202J of £3J.676.2J.
Year on year: it can be challenging to cornpare annual accounts due to income and expenses associated with
World Games, one off events and fundraising.
TSNI'S main expenditure this vear was the British Transplant Games in Coventry at £17,609 (2022= £18,212).
Kit replenishment cost £2,165 with annual insurance remaining high costing £835.
Three members attended the World Transplant Game5 in April 2023. Their expenses amounted to over £8,000.
Much of their fundraising was noted in the 2022 accounts.

There was some one-off expenditure in 2023 to consider: which included £1,800 on legal expenses in relation to
TSNI'S application to become an individual member couniry of the World Transplant Games Federation.
TSNI paid bills for two sets of independent examinations this year totalling £2,960
In terrns of fundraising.. TSNI wish to extend thanks to many members of the charity who completed various
events raising over £9,000 last year.

Just Giving continues to be a great bolster to the accounts by adding 25p for every £1 Gift Aided. TSNI would
strongly urge all members to use this method of fundraising io help gain extra mone}, for the charity.
As always, TSNI are extremely graleful to the Belfast Tnlsl's Medical Specialities Charitable Trust for supporting
athletes through the award of significani Grants. TSNI thank every member that has financially coi)tributed to the
Charity and urge them to con(inue to think" of various ways to promote TSNI H'hilst raising vital funds to keep
supporting members.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Transplant Sport Northern Ireland
We report on the accounts of the charitv for the year ended 31 December 2023, which are set out on pages 6 to 10.
Respective responsibilities of charit! trustees and examiner
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities
Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
It is our responsibility to=
examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act:
follow the procedure5 laid down in the general Direction5 given bv the Charlties Commission for Northern
Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act- and
state whether particular matters have come to our attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
We have examined vour charity accounts as required under Section 65 of the Charities Act and our examination
was carried out in accordance Th'ith the general Directions given by the Charity, Commission for Northern Ireland
under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act.
Our examination included a review olthe accounting records kept by the charit! and a comparison of the accounts
presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual itetns or disc105ures in the account5
and seeking explanations from you a5 charitv trustees concerning anv such Tnatters.
Our role is to state whether any vnaterial matter5 have come to our attention giving u5 cause to believe-
That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act.

ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities
Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January
2015) - Charities SORP (FRS 102) and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the
Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
Going Concern
The accounts have been prepared on a (poing concern basi5 a5 no tnaterial uncertainties exist which may cast
significant doubt upon the charity's ability to continue as a going concern.
Taxalion
There is no liability to taxation due to the charitable status.
Fund Accounting
The charity has various types of funds for which it is responsible and which require separate disclosure.
These are as follows:

Restricted funds
Donations received which are designated by the donor for specific purposes. Such purposes are within
the overall aim of the organisation.
(li} Unrestricted funds
Funds which are expendable at the discretion of the company in furtherance of the objects of the charity.
