Objectives
The Charity is estsblished to P￿V￿le support for people, from a variety of
cuttures, who are deaf, hard of hearing and heariro and signing through:
alleviating s(xial and rural isolation through provision of educational,
recreational and I￿Sure time activities.
raising awareness amongst the public of issues affecting people who are
deaf l>Jth generally and in relats'on to their equalty and issues of s(Kial
exclusion.
Key Activtties In this Year
Monthly meetings for peopfe who are deaf, hard of hearing, hearing and
signing using BSL arKI ISL and leamirKJ new signs to communicate
better
Drama workshops by Exit Does Theatre using funding secured from
Femianagh and Omagh District Council. The y￿￿kshopS lts)ked at ways
to tackle isolation of the deaf arKI hard of hearing communty and
exploring new ways to make the community aware of the deaf culture

Games night- an evening of fun with the group helping the members
communicate more easily vthile enjowng the games
Arts and C￿ftS night- making birthday cards for family and friends, the
group worked together to leam new skills
Pancake tossing on Shrove Tuesday, mwnbers leamed new signs for
terms and words involved with cooking
American themed games and foc*J night on 4 July leaming tcoether
while signing
Signed tslk and slide sh¢yw by l(Thl historian on Enniskillen's past and
discussion ab)ut old times
Summer trip funded by Black Santa, Bewast Cathedral Sit-out, to Cultra
Folk and Transport Museum, a first for most of the deaf hard of hearing
members of the group, this induded a dinner together to finish off the
day. This activity brought the group into o)ntad wth a wide range of
people that we do not normally meet. It enabled our members to meet
and interact with new people who may not have encountered people who
use sign language and raise the general public's avRreness deaf culture
Christrnas Dinner with invitations to family members and friends who
joined the group to celebrate the season and the successful year
achieved by the group
Trustees have considered Chaiity Commission for Northem Ireland's general
guidance on public benefrt when revi￿1ng our objectives and in planning our
future activities to ensu￿ that these athieve the ass<x4ation's purposes and
provide a benefit to beneficiaries.
Flnanclal Review
Revlew of Business
SWEDES (South West Enabling Deaf Encouraging Sign) is non-profit making
with net income and resources in this year of £852.50. The trustees continue to
mange resources in an efficient and sustsinable manner.
Reserves Pollcy
SWEDE SWEDES (South West Enabling Deaf Encouraging Sign) have a
ReseNes Policy, which requires that reserves are bu1￿ or mainlained at a lev81
which ensures that the organisations core activities could c¢)ntinue during a
period of unforeseen difficulty and that the organisations known liabilities will be
paid should the organisation cease to trade.
Future Plans
SWEDES (South West Enabling Deaf Erwuraging Sign) plan to continue to
fcKus on controlling costs, while maintsining the high standards of Se￿Ie£ to our
beneficiaries.
STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES, RESPONSIBILITIES
for the year ended 31 DecemLEr 2017
The Trustees are responsible for preparing financial statements in
acxordance with appli13bie law and wulations.

The tTUStees are responsible for keeping proper ac£ounting rg))rds which
disdose with reasonable acC￿racY at any time the financial PK)sition of the
charity and to enable them to ensure that the firtancial statements comply with
all appropriate tEgulations. They are also responsible for safeguarding the
assets of the charity and he￿* for taking reasonable steps ft)r the prevention
and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
In so far as the trustees are aware:
there is no re￿vant inforrnakn'on (Info￿atiOn needed by charitys
independent examiner in connection wth preparing the independent
examiners report) of the charitys independent examiner is
unaware. and
the tNstees have tsken all the steps that they ought to have taken to
make themsdves aware of any relevant independent examiner
information and to establish that the tharitys independent examiner
is aware of that information.
