www.hopelimavady.org OUR ow HOPE 2018 was another outstanding success. All 300 places in the camp were filled within PARISH EN 20 minutes. We had a new shirt sponsor EDA Brickworks. This year the sponsors were in place before Christmas. For the first time we had five choices each day over two venues.
HOPE COMMITTEE
The committee remain in place. They are hard working and give of their time free of charge. Next year we will have two students from St. Mary’s College Belfast and they will organise Friends Of HOPE and take care of bookings.
FUNDRAISERS
Our Fundraisers were very successful
Stars In Their Eyes 80s Night
We were sold out for two nights in The Drummond Hotel. Hugely successful and great for our reputation. The evnt was attended by people from both communities.
Duck Race
An annual event and yet again a great community night out
Friends Of HOPE
Less time was available this year due to a variety of reasons but it was a very fruitful fundraiser.
Bingo
Our rolling Jackpoy kept rhe numbers high at the Bingo nights.
INCLUSION
HOPE continues to attract children from every school in the area and from all socio economic backgrounds. Keeping the entrance fee low makes the programme accessible to all. The volunteers come from all age groups and a variety of backgrounds. We have a number of autistic children in the camp.
Volunteer Training
This year we made an effort to provide the volunteers with the best training possible. Paula Cunningham and Noel O’Donnell from the Diocesan Safeguarding Team trained the volunteers in Safeguarding procedures. Coastal Core Training took on First Aid Training and a course in Food Hygiene.

Another amazing week. A lot of effort went into the week. We introduced new activities each day; they were Circus Skills, Upcycle Art, Horse Riding and Drumming Circles. Each year we strive to upgrade the programme. It is important to keep the popular events in place. The Community Colour Run was a brilliant day. A huge crowd turned out and the atmosphere was excellent.
The daily afternoon activities were well planned and helped enhance the HOPE experience for the children e.g. Slip and Slide, Archery, Futsal, Pokeball, Spectacular. The behaviour of the children in the camp was superb.
Volunteers It is a privilege to work with the volunteers. Their talent and enthusiasm inspire everyone. As each year passes by the volunteers are buying into the vision of HOPE and they are becoming more aware of how they can help HOPE grow. This year each time had two team leaders and this proved a great success. It clearly identified people to speak to should their be a safeguarding issue
Safeguarding
Karen and Bronagh lead our safeguarding team. All volunteers over 18 are vetted> This year all wore a lanyard and scanned themselves into the hall each morning. Our safeguarding procedures are constantly held us an example of good practice by the Diocesan Safeguarding Team.
GOING FORWARD
The success of HOPE 6 presents a problem for us, we have to organise a camp to rival but hopefully surpass last year.
-
Next year we will have two temporary administrators during March/April
-
We intend to have another big fundraiser at Halloween, this time a Pantomine.
-
We have still been unable to benefit fully from Gift Aid status
-
Trip day will change with a trip to one of the local water parks planned.
-
The opening night will be switched to an opening at 12pm on the Sunday
-
Our new Marquee was destroyed due to the weather last year and we must aim to get this repaired.
-
The website needs upgraded

HOPE
Last year my mother passed away and it was hard to get a lot of the planning done during this time. Despite this we worked together to produce the best HOPE yet. We have volunteers who were once in the camp and volunteers who believe in the ethos of HOPE. We attract all communities , all ages and all economic background. We ask for very little and yet people give us so much. HOPE is a sense of great pride to Limavady, to our Parish, to our committee and to me.
