## Activities

**Purposes:** CAUSE's objects are restricted to the following in our governing document.    To provide relief, education and support to those caring for individuals with a serious mental illness (hereinafter called the “the beneficiaries”) within Northern Ireland (hereinafter called the “area of benefit”) and relieve the debilitating impact of caring for someone with a serious mental illness, and in particular:  a) to provide an advocacy and support service to  mental health carers, to provide them with help, information and guidance to assist mental health carers to understand their rights and gain access to appropriate services;  b) to highlight the value and importance of the carer’s role as a partner in care supporting the recovery of mental health service users;  c) to advocate on behalf of mental health carers and raise awareness of their experiences, needs and opinions enabling mental health carers to effectively represent their individual and collective views and needs to relevant agencies, decision makers and policy makers; and enabling them to influence service provision and policies relevant to mental health carers;  d) to educate and provide training to health and social care practitioners and service providers on mental health carers’ issues, the needs of carers and effectively engaging with them;  e) to promote good practice among mental health carers by means of educational  and training programmes;   f) to promote an atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement between the beneficiaries and to provide respite and facilities in the interests of social welfare for education, recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving their conditions of life.
