This year we were contacted by CANI INGBI to run a practical course for promotion of inclusive paddling nationally, Ourtwo paddleability tutors ran a course with seasoned and new paddlers with extra needs both physical and learning. Eight other clubs and CANI attended to observe the session and then a lively question and answer session followed- observers left with more confidence to take inclusive paddling back to their own organisations and with the offer of mentoring through our club coaches, Erne Paddlers has always had a strong cohort of dedicated and skilled coaches and an exemplary ethos of mentoring for both personal and coaching development. We have a dedicated and motivated team of coach educators to develop and mentor indSviduals through thls process - having more than one coach educator Is unusual In paddlesport clubs and Is a resource we highly value. Lockdown has allowed our coaches to plan forfuture venues and groups both at beginner and intermediate level. Ou r leade rs facilitated trips for our expe rie nced sea paddl ing volunteers to mode rate wate r venues and this year ran a 2 day trip on the west and north west coastline of Donegal including many first experiences for our intermediate paddlers such as paddling around headlands, navigating islands and tides and trip planning on a bigger scale than previously. Travelling to coastal venues allows our paddlers to test their skills in tougher Imoderate Waterl conditions underthe watchful eyes of experienced leaders. All sea kayak trips are planned with our volunteers and information is shared in our communication groups to upskill everyone we paddle with to become increasingly proficient and independent safe paddlers. We have developed a comprehensive planning resource forthese and future trips. Detailed group briefings allow us to share this information with beginner and ntermediate paddlers so they can start to make safe decisions and are aware of the detailed plannlng process that leads to our relaxed and enloyable sesslons on the day. As In prevlous years we ran a whlte water rlvers course allowlng a different outlet for our members to test the skills honed In our regular flat-water, skllls coachSng sessSons. ThSs year our Development Officer mentored asplrant river leaders towards assessment and two of our volunteering team achSeved this qualification. This year the rivers course has increased in attendance and paddler sklll development and we hop this continues to grow going forward. This year we developed peer paddllng sesslons where experlenced club paddlers could organise trlps for a small contribution towards the use of club kit and have the security of an experienced mentor checking trlp plans and group members experlence. Paddleboard sessions, Learn to Kayak/Canoe, Progress Your Paddling and Friday Family Fun sessions ran weekly during the season with journeys Snvolving short coaching sessions formlng enjoyable trips for both coaches and members, All our sessions are progressive and and are pitched to the skill of the ndSviduals and are coached inclusively, We run a mixture of technical skills sessions, journeying and Games With Aims sessions to facilitate enjoyable learning for all. As possibly the busiest multS-craft club in Nl we continued to run sessions up to 6 days a week. The club couldn't exSst without our dedicated team of skilled coaches and volunteers and we remain dedicated to rewarding and traSning towards continued personal development and club sustaSnability, Outreach The club has well established1Snks wlth the local schools, communlty groups, Fermanagh Omagh District Council, and Waterways Ireland who look after the navigation on the Erne System, as well as Outdoor Recreation Nl and Sport Nl. We continue to engage these groups in our post-covld regene ration. Our strategy of offering general open access Learn to Paddle skills courses branded as Skills after School allowing young people from multiple schools to mix and learn together has again proven more successful than running courses for individual schools. This successful course saw a lively group of 7 to Ilyr olds engage in a progressive programme in May, June and Septemberthis year. In a new venture the club has now run several successful one-to-one coaching sessions to address specif ic individua I needs. Page 6
