Muintirevlin Historical Society. AGM 22/23

The Society got off to a busy start with the re-introduction of the thatched Roof Grant. The search for a skilled thatcher was very time consuming. It was necessary to have a thatcher lined up to start immediately, as the time frame from the award of the grant to the completion of the project was very short. We were lucky to secure thatcher Ivor Kilpatrick from Raphoe, who supplied his own home grown rye for the thatching. In order to keep costs down,

members of the society erected the scaffolding. The work took two weeks to complete and a photo of Coyles Cottage with the new thatched roof appeared in the Dungannon Herald.

A grant of £8,580.00 was received on the 05/12/22and the total grant was paid over to Ivor Kilpatrick on 07/12/22.

On the 15/06/22 Lough Neagh Partnership held a tourist information day on Eel fishing and tanning. They also promoted Lough Neagh boat cruises and paid a fee of £50.00 for the use of the cottage.

The annual open-air traditional music night was held on 08/07/22 there was a good turnout of musicians and singers but attendance was down to approx. 40, but this may be due to the weather. A light supper was served and admission was £5.00.

On 13/08/22 Muintirevlin Historical Society had a guided tour of the Ring of Gullion led by Una Walsh .This was a very enjoyable and informative tour and the weather was also in our favour with brilliant sunshine. The total cost was £663.15. Members were partially funded by the Historical Society.

Muintirevlin Historical Society donated Post Office records on the workings of the old Ardboe Post Office to the Post Office Museum.

The historical society was unable to hold the annual Christmas traditional music night as the roof repairs were taking place and Coyle’s Cottage was closed.

Adrian McElhone donated two sun seats for use at the back of the cottage for visitors. He also repaired the gable wall that was badly damaged by a passing vehicle.

The white washing and painting of the cottage by the historical society will take place in May, weather permitting.

Muintirevlin Historical Society are looking forward to a new set of history talks, and great traditional musical nights in the coming year.
