We achieve this strdtegic objeclive by operating a Youih Club in dedicated premises. We have done
this since 1942. We deliver seryices lo young people in the 5-25 age range. This cenlre operdtes full-
tim¢ over 7 days and has over 300 regisl¢r¢d member$.
Much of whal we have slaied in previous truslees reports is slill applicable. Our strategic objectives
remain as before namely lo assist young people in regard lo taking c(Jntrol of ihebr live8. Our aim is to
provid¢ a safe and stture environment for our youn8 people, o home from hom¢, a place where youn8
people have opportunilies for fun, mF4king memories and learning in an informal way. W¢ provid¢
one-lo-one support for youn8 people and have an on-site counsellor,
In partiClP81ion wilh buSin￿s￿ for example ihe Co-op, Allied bakeries Mash Direct Greggs and
through the Neighbourly, Fareshare p￿graM from Marks & Spencer Tesco and Sainsbury we offer
meals lo our young people every day. If we have left anyone oul from 0￿r benefactors please forgive
us but rest assured ihal the conlribution is much aPp￿cl￿ted.
There is always meals available free of charge and we have noted an incrused demand for this iype of
provision. Poverty is a very real concem lo us in ihe area where we operale.
We hav¢ started a program called "Take whai you need and give whai you can" This program
provides free food, sanitary products to young people, frtt haircuts for young mcn. prc-lovcd school
uniforms collected and re-distribuied. We work with funders lo provid¢ support in relation lo ga$ and
eleclri¢. Social deprivalion unforlunalely continues to focus our effort.
Our activities includ¢ breakfast club, dinner club and commvnily giving tables, We offer young
people ihe opportunily to participate in a range of personal and social dev¢lopment opportunities,
infomul educational opportunili¢s and accredilations. We facilitate a ran8e of sporting OPPOrtunitieg
in¢luding our IABA (Irish amateur boxing Asso¢ialion) affilial¢d boxing club.
We conlinue to receive $ignificani feedback of a posiliv¢ nature in relalion lo our homework club.
We would be the firsl lo say thai we are not perfecl and always look to learn.
W¢ work closely with th¢ EdU￿tIon Authority and appr¢cial¢ at all times the help ihal they give us
and we endeavour lo comply fully with iheir advice and recommend81ions.
We believe in embedding emolional health and well-being in a framework thai involves a considerable
emphasis being placed on ihese issues leading io an early support through a range of iargeted
programs including in particular an in-house counsellinB service, referrals to famlly support hub or

North¢rn Ireland. Thcre is no private profit or benefit derived fmm our operations. All is done for ihe
Publi¢ Benefit.
Volunteers
Th¢ ¢hariiy is Eme￿1 for the unstinling efforts of its volunteers who are involva in s¢riice provfision
and fund-raising. It is estimated that over 4,992 volunleer hours were provided during the year, If this
is conservatively valued at the average minimum wage for work¢rs aged 21 years and old¢r for ihe
year of £9.34 an hour ihe volunt¢¢r effort amounts to over £46,625.
We recognise ihe contributions has been made over the last 80 years by innumerable people in our
Community.
We would conclude by thanking all lkn¢ who have work¢d with us io help us achieve our objectives
and our young people.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Total income for the y¢8r was £141,595 (2022 £234,667). Income from donations and legacies
amounted to £141.422 (2022 £234,551) and income from inv¢stm¢nls amounted to £173 (2022
£116),
Total expendilurc for the year aMOu￿ed to £137,685 (2022 £191,767). The cosi of chariiabl¢

The nel income for Ihe year amouffled 10 £3,910 (2022 - £42,900 n¢t income) and has been transferred

To paraphrase a famous advertising slogan w¢ were born 1942 and ar¢ still going slron8.
W¢ were conceived on the baitlefields of Italy. Our founder Bob Yarr fighiing his way up through
Ilaly with the Allies conceived a time of peace. He detennined if he got back IK)me Ihal h¢ would
devote himself io working with young people. He was joined by his good friend Bill Robss)n also
fought in the same war. Ironically we have existed through violent and peaceful limes since ihen.
This therefore has been a significant year for us and we marked the rteasion in various ways
culminaling in a banquet in ihe Cily Hall as the guests of th¢ High Sheriff of Belfasi Dr. John Kylc, al
which we celebraled eve￿hing gttat about Ledl¢y Hall, especially its people, our young people and
volunteers and their ¢ommitment to our young people over decades of service, we also cclebraled our

tournament ever to lake place in Belfast Ciiy Hall.
Another significant eveni ¢xcurred. You will no doubt appreciale how pleas¢d we were lo b¢ awarded
th¢ Kings Award for Voluntary Service. one of only 7 or8anisations in Northern Ireland lo receive this
prestigious award, in the firsi of HM King Charles KAVS, This is a significant award recognising all
the efforl that went in lo develop the club over the years through volunlary effort. The award will be
presented locally by the Lord-Lieutenanl early next year and represenlatives of the or8anisalion will
also allend a Royal Garden party.
The year was also marked when we received the Silver Award for Makalon, currently Ihe highest
award 8iven by the Makaton Charity for communication excellence. We arc ihe only youth club in
Northern Ireland io hold the Makaion award and the only OTganisation lo hold th¢ award al Silver.
This is a programme which cn8bles communicalion lo lake place wilh young people who h4V¢
additional communication needs.

Reserves policy
It is ihe policy of Ihc charily lo maintain free reserves which matches ihe needs of the Injst, both ai Ihe
cuffenl time and in ihe foresLYablc future. This providcs suifieicnt funds lo cover running cosls which
include managemenl, administration and support eosis. Free reserves are ihose unreslriGt¢d reserves
not designaled nor invested in fixed assels which are available for 8¢neral use.
Our re5eTves in lerms of contingency funds have been depleted sin¢¢ the year end due lo a large
redundancy payment to three members of staff. Unfortunately. when a particular program w¢ were
running for lh¢ Education Authority came lo an end, a large r¢dundan¢y paym¢ni fell du¢.
Redundancy paymenls are nol met by the Education Auihority.

Many of the present members hav¢ b¢¢n involved in the charily for a number of years and so are
familiar wilh ils work, Th¢ members regularly review the requirements of the charity and ihe
possibility of a need for additional member5. Any new members would be appointed by applying in
writtng to the Council for admission and be proposed by a member. The Council may reje￿ ihe
application or if not the Council will submit the applicalion to the next annual 8¢nwal mc¢ling of the
Trust or to an extraordinary general meding ¢onv¢n¢d at ihe direclion of the Council. The applican¢
shall be approved by an ¢xtraordinary re501uti<)n of Ihe members of the Ttust passed by a majoriiy of

advancemeni of educalion in Northern Ireland. In particular we will address the needs of young pwplc
as they aris¢. W¢ consider flexibility io be a very imFx)rtant aspecl of meeting ihe needs of ihe young
