partnership with children and young people as Ihey seek io me& iheir persoThal. social. emotional.
cultural, political and physical needs. We offer young people guidance and support and encourage
Ihem lo excel. Leading by example, we promote value5 5u¢h as Irust, honesty and friendship and darc
young p￿pIe to dream. In working lo achieve these aims we will Slrive to creale a climate of mutual
respecl, undersianding and ￿Uali1y.
We ackn.eve this strategic objeclive by operating a Youth Club in dedicated premises. We have done
this si￿¢ 1942. Wc dcliver scrviccs lo young pcople in the 5-25 age range. This cenire opernles full-
lim¢ over 7 days and has over 300 re8iSt¢red m¢mb¢rs.
Much of whal we have staled in previous Iru$tee$ reports is slill applicable. Our $trategi¢ objectives
remain as before namely io assisi young people in regard io taking control of their Iiv¢è•. Our airn is to
provide a safe and secure environmeni for our youn8 people, a home from home, a place where young
people have opportunities for fun. making memories and I￿rning in an infomial way. We provide
one-lo-one suppon for youn8 people and ha￿ an on-sit¢ counsellor.
In participalion with businesses for example the Co-op, Allied bakeries Mash Direci Greggs and
ihrough the Neighbourly, Fareshare program from Marks & Spencer Tesco and Sainsbury we offer
meals 10 our young people every day. If we have lefl anyone out from our ben¢faclors Pl￿Se forgive
Us but rest assured thai the Contribution is mu¢h apprKial¢d.
There is always meals available free of charge and w¢ hav¢ noted an increased demand for Ihis type or
provision. Poverty is a very real concern 10 us in ihe area Wh￿ w¢ op¢rat¢.
We hav¢ started a program called 'Yake whai you need and give what you can" This progrdm
provides fre¢ food, sanilary producls lo young people, free haircuts for young men, pre-loved school
unifomis collected and re-dislributed. We work with funders to provide support in relalion to gas and
elec¢ri¢. Social deprivation unfortunately conlinues lo focus our effort.
Our activities includ¢ breakfast club, dinner club and communtly 8ivin8 tables. We offer young
people the opportunity to participale in a rnnge of personal and 50cial d¢velopm¢nl opportunities,
infonnal educational opportuTrities and accreditations. We facilitate a range of sportin8 Opportunities
including (wr IABA (Irish amateur boxing A8s0¢iation) affilial¢d boxing club,
We ¢onlinue to receive significani feedback of a positive nature in relalion to our homework club.

We work closely with ¢hc Education Authority and appreciate at all times the help ihai they give us
and we endeavour to comply fully with iheir advice and recommendaiions.
We believe in embedding emotional health and well-bein8 in a framework thal Anvolves a con5iderabl¢
emphasis being placed on ¢hese issues leadin8 to an early support through a range of targeted
programs including in particular an in-house counselling service, referrals lo family Support hub or
oiher sp¢cialisl agencies. We conlinually self-evaluale,

We have regard to public benefil and endeavour to be guided by the Charity commission from
Northern Ireland. There is no private profit or benefit derived from our operations. All is done for lh¢
Public Benefii.
Volunteers
Th¢ chariiy is gralefvl for th¢ unstinting ¢fforfs of its volunteers who are involved in s¢rvlce provision
and fvnd-raising. It is estimated thal over 4,992 volunteer hours were provided during the year. Ir ihis
is ¢onservatively valued at the average mlnlmum wage for work¢rs ag¢d 21 years and older for ihe
year of £9.34 an hour the volun¢¢￿ effort amounts to over £46,625.
W¢ reco8nis¢ the ¢ontributions has been made over Ihe la& 80 years by innumerable people in our
Communily.
We would conclude by Ihanking all those who have work¢d with us io help us achieve our objectives
and our young p¢opI¢.
ACIIIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Total income for the year wa$ £141,595 (2022 - £234,667). Income from donalions and 1¢8acies
amount¢d lo £141,422 (2022 - £234.551) and income from inveslm¢nls Amounted to £173 (2022
£116).
Total ¢xpenditure for the year amoumed to £137,685 (2022 £191,767). The cosi of charilable
aclivities amounted to £137,685 (2022 - £191.767).
The net income for ihe year amouni¢d to £3,910 (2022 - £42.900 n¢t income) and has been tra￿ferred
lo accumulated funds.

We were eonc£ived on the battlefields of Ilaly. Our founder Bob Yarr fighting his way up through
lialy with ihe Allies conceived a time of peace. He de¢enKined if he got back hom¢ that h¢ would
devole himself to working with young people. He was Join￿ by his good friend Bill Robson also
fought in the sam¢ war. Ironically we have existed through violenl and p￿¢ful limes since ihen.
This therefore has been a significant year for us and we marked the occasion in various ways
culminating in a banquth in the City Hall as the 8uests of lh¢ High Sheriff of Belfasl Dr. Jolm Kyl4 al
which we celebratd eve￿hing gr¢al abo￿ Ledley Hall. especially its people, our young people and
volunt¢ers and their commilment to our youn8 pwl¢ ov¢r d￿ad¢S of servic¢. w¢ also ￿lebrated our

sporting excellence ai this ¢v¢nt with a boxing lournarnent, only the second planned boxing
tournanient ever to lake place in Belfast City Hall.
Another significant event ￿cUrred. You will no doubt appTwiatc how plcas¢d wc w¢r¢ to bc awarded
Ihe Kings Award for Voluntary Service, one of only 7 organisalions in Northern Ireland to T￿e1Ve this
prestigious award, in ihe firsi of HM King Charles KAVS. This is a significant award recognising all
the effort that went in to develop Ihc club over the years through volunlary effort. The award will be
presented locally by the Lord-Lieut¢nant early next year and r￿resentativeS of the organisalion will
also attend a Royal Garden party.
The year was also marked when we received the Silver Award for Makaton, currenily the highesl
award 8iven by the Makaton Charily for communication excellence. We are ihe only youth club in
Northern Ireland to knld the Makalon award and the only organisation lo hold the award al Silv¢r.
This is a programme which enables communicalion lo lake place with young people who have
additional commuThi¢ation n¢¢ds.

The principal funding is from 8rant$ and donalions.
Reserves policy
It is the policy of the charily (o maintain free r¢s¢rrfes which malches the needs of the INSI, both ai Ihe
current time and in Ihe foresecablc future. This provides sufficient ￿ndS lo cover running costs which
includc managcmenl, adminislralion and supwfl cosls. Fr¢¢ r¢serv¢s are those unrestricled reserrfes
not dc5ignaied nor invesled in fixed assels which are available for g¢n¢Tal use.
Our reserv¢s in lernv of ¢onlingency fvnds have been depl￿￿ since Ihe year end due lo a large
redundancy payment lo three members of slaff, Unfortunalelyi when a particular program we were
nning for the Education Auihorily came to an end, a lar8e redundancy payment fell due.

Many of Ihe present members have been involved in the charity for a number of years and w are
familiar with ils work. The members regularly review the requirements of ihe charity and ihe
possibility of 8 need for additional members, ikny new membeT5 would be appoinied by applying in
wriling to Ihe Council for admission and b¢ proposed by a mcmbw. The Council may rejea Ihe
applicalion or if not the Council will submit the application lo the next annual g¢n¢ral meeting of the
Trus1 or to an exlraordinary general meeling wnvened at the direction of th¢ Council. Thc applicant
shall be approved by an extraordinary resolulion of the members of the Trust passed by a majority of

The Ledley H811 Boys, and Girls, Club will continu¢ to promote the improvement of social welfare, the
fostering of communiiy hamwny, Ihe improvement of hcalih and physical w¢ll-b¢in8 and the
advancemenl of educalion in Northern Ireland. In particular we will address the needs of young peopl¢
as they arise. We consider flexibility io be a very important aspect of meelin8 the needs of the young
people.

The charitable company has a contingeni liabilily lo repay grants re¢eived if ih¢ company fails to
mply with certain ¢ondilions stipulated in the letier of off¢r and ternis and conditions of contract
under which ih¢ granls were paid. The directors do expect any cjaims to be ma(k in this

The Department of Education for North¢m Ireland agreed to make a grani to the company of a sum
not exceeding £300,000 towards expcnditur¢ I￿u1r¢d by the company subject to ternis and
condilions conlained in an Indenture dated 31 V December 1987. If within 50 years from Ihis date
the conditions of the grnnt no longer apply, Ihere shall be payable lo ihe Departmeni by lh¢
company a sum which ihe Department cotL8iders equitable bul which docs not cxceed the sum
del¢rmined by Ihe ¢al¢ulation set forth in Articles I1{5) of the Order.
The Childhood Fund Support Serrfice, under the EU Special Support Progranune for Peace atkl
Reconcilialion Childhood Fund, a8reed to mak¢ a granl of £32,000 io the company towards ih¢
e5tAbli$hmenl of a playcare group for children of primAry school age subjrxt to temis and
