UNITED CHRISTIAN AID REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES for the Year Ended 31 JANUARY 2018 The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the Purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 January 2018. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities= Statement of Recommended Practice appli¢able to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in th¢ UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2015). OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectives and Activities The objectives of th¢ Company are to:. {a) relieve povety and sickne (b) protect and preserve health by the provision or assistance of hurnanitarian aid amongst the poor and und¢Tprivileged people5 of Eastern Europe in particular bospitals and orphanages. It aims to advance the education of the publi¢ in Northern Ireland ¢on¢erning th¢ causes of and way of relieving poverty. sickness and distress in E&stern Europe. Activities We raise money by way of regular sponsorship and donations. We also have a shop to sell clothing and other items donated. We generate money by re¢1]ng and catry our other fimdrdi$ing activates. The money generated is the given to families on a bi-Enonthly basis. We also fimd education of students that cannot afford to pay for it. These faTnilies are chosen by the tomn hall and school tea¢hers as being poor and in need. We also help familtes with money, appliances and payment of utility bills directly to the utility company when they are identified a5 being in need. W¢ also a canteen for the poor providing I meal per day for. We renovate kindergartens and provide new textbooks for schools. For families with alcoholism or the inability to manage money we pay a fixed amount per month tn the village shop for them to draw on as needed. These amounts are monitored on a regular basis to ensure they are being used properly for the n¢eds of the children. We also send a newsl¢tt¢r to our regular donors updating them on the wotk being ¢arried out by the chatity. Ptsblie benefit The benefits flowtng from the purpose of the charity include an individual families identified to be in n¢¢d being abl¢ to afford the basic needs of food, clothing and housing. This leads to improved health and wellb¢ing. Comml1tes have access to basic infrastnjcture, water and gas supplies, basic childcare, employEnent opportunities, leading to improved local econorny and collllnunity development. This fall¢la1 assistane¢ has enhanced relations bettveen Northern Ireland and the E&stern European county being supported. FINANCIAL REVIEW Finaneial Review The total income for the year ended 31 January 2018 amounted to £20,796 (2017.. £44,090). Total resources expended during the year amounted to £23,669 {2017.. £44,974) of which £21,253 was in the forni of gifts to Moldova (2017.. £40,774)- The Charity held £1,755 in cash reserves at th¢ year end (2017.. £3,(M6). The Trust¢es regard thÈs as suificient and are r¢Yi¢wing the resetves policy in th¢ current year. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document The charity is controlled by its governing document. a Memorandum 2nd Articles of Association, and coll5titutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defmed by the Companies Act 2006. The company was incorporated on 28 Jmuary 1998 and r¢gist¢red with the Clwity Commission for Northern Ireland on 23 November 2015. Risk management The trnstees have a duty to identify and r¢view the risks to which the charity 1$ exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide r¢asonable assurdnce against fraud and error.
