Annual Report for the year ended 30[th] September 2017

The trustees of the Four Towns Rural Regeneration Group are pleased to submit their report and accounts for the period 1[st] October 2016 to 30[th] September 2018.

Meeting Programme

During this last year the Four Towns Rural Regeneration Group has met on a monthly basis. The group circulates their meetings between a number of Orange Order Halls within the area including Innisrush, Culnady, Tamlaght O’Crilly and Eden Orange Halls.

The meetings have been well attended by our members with at least 8 members of the group in attendance at each meeting.

During these meetings the focus of the group is towards raising money to continue to fund the insurance and general upkeep costs of the four defibrillators the group own as well as seeking funding opportunities to improve the local area and provide support to our local community.

Achievements and Performance

The group considers this year to have been a productive and successful year. Our achievements have included:

Fund the insurance and general upkeep of 4 defibrillators located in each of the four villages (Culnady, Innisrush, Tamlaght O’Crilly and Upperlands).
Arrange and host 6 defibrillator training sessions to educate up to 100 people within the local area who now have access to a defibrillator should it be needed.
Host a community table quiz to raise money but also to provide a social event for members of the local community.
Host a 5-a-side football tournament for both adults and children. Over 10 teams entered the tournament and it was accompanied by a family fun day with bouncy castle and BBQ.
The group consulted with the Mid-Ulster Council and local community to form a village plan to target community based projects we will focus on in the future.

Membership

At 30[th] September 2017 membership of the group was 9; no new members joined the group in the year.

Financial Review

The year ended with a sole fund balance of £1265.22

The sole purpose of the funds held by the group are to support the funding and general upkeep of the 4 defibrillators owned by the group and also to fund any community based activities arranged by the group including the 5-a-side football tournament. In general the group considers its income to be healthy.

Objectives and Activities

Charitable Objects

Our group strives to connect and benefit all members of the community living within the four towns area. The groups initial successful project was to gain funding to buy four defibrillators that could be fitted within each of the four villages.

At present the group continues to organise functions that can be attended by all members of the four towns community building relationships and connecting people who otherwise would not engage. This includes a family fun day, table quiz and five a side football tournament.

Currently the main project of the group is working towards involves seeking funding to build a community hub. We in the Four Towns Community Group are striving to provide a community hub that will offer the opportunity to engage multiple generations and denominations and are confident that such a hub would be utilised by our community, connecting people from each of the four villages who otherwise may not engage.

Whilst there are a number of unsuitable halls within the area there are no buildings suitable to be regularly used by all members of the community to bring everyone together. This is partially due to the size and design of each hall but also primarily due to the preconception that the residents of each village should make use of their own halls and facilities. Therefore, through the building of such a community hub which has been proposed and lead by representation from each of the four villages this preconception should be squashed.

Public benefit Statement

The direct benefits which flow from the purpose listed in Section 3 of the constitution include increased integration and social interaction; decreased isolation and enhanced health and wellbeing for the people living in the South Londonderry district council area.

This benefits will be evidenced through feedback from the charity beneficiaries; regular community engagement, including surveys and evaluations; and increased attendance at events and training activities arranged by the charity.

The purposes of our charity will not lead to any harm.

The charity beneficiaries are the people living within the South Londonderry district council area.

There are no private beneficiaries of the charity.

Summary of Main Objectives

The Group is established to promote community development for the public benefit through the advancement of education, amateur sport, relief of isolation, and promotion of health of people living in the South Londonderry district council area (hereinafter called ‘the beneficiaries’), and in particular to:

(a) Provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving conditions of life for the beneficiaries;

(b) Raise awareness among the general public of the needs for community, social, sporting and recreational activities.
