Causeway Borough of Sanctuary Group Charity Number - 103454 Trustees Report - 2025
About the Charity
Our group promotes the inclusion and welfare newcomers to the Causeway area. We work through contacts with local voluntary, statutory, community and faith organisations in assisting people regardless of their ethnicity, race, nationality or religious affiliation. We celebrate the contribution of refugees and asylum seekers to the local community.
How the Charity is funded
The charity has been funded this year from remaining monies previously raised.
Administration .
Current Trustees: Yvonne Boyle, Richard John, Ahmed Sharieff, Rev Bert Richie, Christine Turner..
The group met on 3rd February 2025 as well as being in touch via email. At this meeting the situation of Committee member ill-health and low attendance/input from the group was discussed. It was decided to bring the group to an end and donate remaining monies of £461 to the Coleraine Multicultural Forum. It was noted that individuals on the Committee continue to support local refugees and asylum seekers.
Activities undertaken
In June the Chair liaised Ballywillan Presbyterian Church members and Causeway Coast and Glens Council regarding new asylum seekers coming a hotel near the church in Portrush re: the use of the Church Hall. A support hub has been established. Activites and input from Statutory Services have subsequently been set up and are continuing.
The Chair liaised with the Coleraine Multicultural Forum and passed on a cheque of CBoS remaining monies. We informed City of Sanctuary Coordinator for Scotland and Northern Ireland of our decision.
