Objectives

The purpose of The Friends of Altnagelvin Charity ( F.O.A.) is to provide funding for the enhancement of the hospital experience for patients and their families.

Items purchased are normally outside the categories supplied by the hospital itself. Examples include ; Hairdressing Sets, Childrens’ Play Equipment, Televisions, Crockery, Overnight Chair-beds for families staying with their patient-relative etc.

The Charity continued to support Trauma and Orthopaedics in enhancing its Dementia Programme with the addition of ‘ Fall Guards’ and Stimulation Items . Other donations included Personal-Mini Safes for patients’ personal items, Recliner for Physio. Dept., and NewBorn Baby Sound Monitors for Neo-Natal.

Funds for Ward Requests are deposited in the Trust’s ‘Gifts and Endowments’ Fund. The Trust’s Supplies Dept. can then draw on these funds for purchases as wards requisition.

Annual income for 2023 was £ 22,631. This was a drop from 2022

( £ 28, 839) but was still higher than the pre Covid years.

Our Treasurer, Mr Brian Moran, stepped doen from the Charity at the end of Financial Year ending in December 2023. He has been replaced by Mr Peter Nicholl, an accountant of long standing.

No renumeration was paid to any member of the committee. Expenses for the year 2023 amounted to £ 86.93p for postage.
