Mission, Objectives and Strategy
Objectives
Our organisation advances the education and the development of children, the preservation and protection of health and the promotion of the benefit and wellbeing of children aged between 3 and 11 years old and in particular but not exclusively children under statutory school age in the Derrytrasna area. Our organisation provides a Playgroup for 0-5 year olds and a Breakfast/Afterschool Club for 5-11 year olds attending the primary school in the same property. Our playgroup promotes and follows the early years programme, thus preparing 0-5 year olds from the Derrytrasna area for entry into P1. Our Breakfast and Afterschool Clubs provides the advancement of education, development and well being of children during out-of-school hours and during school holidays. During the Afterschool Club hours, children receive homework support and can take part in organised activities such as arts and crafts, cookery and tin whistle lessons.

Review of Achievements and Performance
Activities, Achievements and Performance
Derrytrasna Playgroup has continued to deliver high quality early years education and out-of-school care throughout the year, despite the ongoing financial pressures associated with rising operational costs. The trustees have remained focused on maintaining a sustainable service while ensuring that the needs and wellbeing of children and families within the local community continue to be met.
Financial Sustainability and Fundraising Activities
In response to increased costs, including higher energy prices and the National Living Wage, a modest increase in fees was introduced to support the ongoing financial viability of the Playgroup, Breakfast Club and Afterschool Club. This was implemented carefully to balance affordability for families with the need to maintain high standards of care and appropriate staffing levels.
4
Derrytrasna Playgroup (A company limited by guarantee, not having a share capital) TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT for the financial year ended 30 September 2025 Fundraising activities continued during the year; however, total funds raised fell short of the previous financial year. Fundraising events included a Halloween Disco (£607) and a Santa Dash (£1,759). While income from fundraising was lower than in the prior year, these events remained important in supporting the running of the setting and in promoting the Playgroup within the local community. The trustees are grateful for the continued support of parents, carers and volunteers who contributed to these events.
In addition to fundraising income, the Playgroup was successful in securing a Take500 grant of £2,000 for 2025. This funding will assist with the delivery of activities for the children.
Staffing and Development
During 2025, two new members of staff were recruited to support the delivery of services and maintain appropriate staffing ratios. The trustees continue to support staff development to ensure the Playgroup provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for all children attending.
Performance and Future Focus The trustees consider the overall performance of the Playgroup during the year to be positive, particularly in light of the financial challenges faced. Looking forward, the trustees will continue to focus on strengthening sustainability, increasing enrolment where possible, and identifying additional funding and fundraising opportunities to support the long-term future of Derrytrasna Playgroup.
