1/ Apologies were received from the following:
Jill, Mark, Joan. Jennifer, Carrie, Kirsty, Nick, Roger, Amelia, Cindy, Ursula, Gareth, Charlotte and Paedar
2/ The last meeting was held in 2020 at the start of the CoVid pandemic. As the secretary role had changed from Marian to Jo and then temporarily to Phil 3 months ago the minutes from the previous meeting in 2020 were not available. The committee agreed to start a fresh due to the uncertainty of the previous two years.
3/ Glyn thanked everyone in the club for their support over the last two years during the pandemic. (The committee, Parents, Carers, and especially the athletes)
Everyone played their part in getting in touch with the athletes via zoom meetings and then getting back on the slopes.
It was important as a team to stay connected and to support each other during the uncertainty of the pandemic, which we did and I believe it has brought the team closer.
4/ Phil has been doing the secretary role for the last few months assisting Jo. The last few months have been busy trying to ensure our club documents are up to date ensuring we comply with Special Olympics Ireland. Our risk assessments have been updated and the work is nearly complete. Some additional information is needed to be correlated and that should be in place before we start back later in the year.
5/ Jo read out her report which I have scanned and attached for you all to read.
Jo thanked Michael McDowell for producing the Ski Ability NI Report and Financial Statements for year ended 31[st] July 2021. (I have attached it to this report)
The account doesn’t show the recent payment of our slope fees which was approximately £5000 for the last season. This leaves us with £13850 in our account.
6/ The committee before standing down requested a few changes to the committee. This was to remove deputy and vice roles as the club wasn’t big enough to require them. If a committee member was unable to fulfil their duties then a meeting would be convened to vote in a temporary or replacement. Proposed by Glyn and seconded by Jack. All attendees at the meeting were in full agreement.
The equipment officer role has been suspended until there is clarity on the responsibilities and if training is required, re-equipment inspections. Once the information has been gathered by Glyn then the committee will invite nominations.
The newly elected Committee for 2022/2023 are:
-
Chairperson: Glyn Williamson. (Nominated by Jack, seconded by Jo)
-
Honorary Treasurer: Jo Best (Nominated by Phil, seconded by Jane)
-
Secretary: Phil Shields (Nominated by Jo, seconded by Glyn)
-
Head Coach: Jill Sloan (Nominated by Glyn, seconded by Phil)
-
Special Olympics Co Ordinator: Jill Sloan (Nominated by Glyn, seconded by Phil)
-
Child Welfare: Jane McDowell (Nominated by Jack, seconded by Glyn)
-
First Aid Officer: Ursula (Nominated by Glyn, seconded by Jane)
-
Fundraising Officer: Harry McDowell (Nominated by Glyn, seconded by Jo)
The title for treasurer has been updated to Honorary Treasurer as requested by John and Gemma. This is the norm for most Charities and the suggestion is welcomed to bring us in line.
7/ As a club we have had little fundraising over the last two years due to the pandemic
We will be applying for various grants to assist the club however we will need to come up with a few ideas to fund raise internally.
We would like to secure funding for:
-
Slope fees
-
Team Uniforms
-
New Equipment
-
Ski Trip,
-
Training/Education, for athletes and coaches, (instructor courses, skill courses, equipment inspection. First aid, coaching qualifications, etc)
In relation to grants, if anyone has ideas or would like to assist, please contact Phil. Phil will be co-ordinating the grants and writing most of them. This is a big task so if anyone has experience in completing grants or proofreading, I will welcome your help.
Ideas so far:
-
The National Lottery
-
Halifax/Lloyds
-
Sport NI
-
The Community Foundation
-
ABC Council
-
PSNI Community Grant
Harry will help co-ordinate our fundraising activities but the only way this will work is if we all come together as a club and support each other and Harry. These can be great team building and fun social events. Nothing to stop us from having a laugh and a barbeque or picnic afterwards
If anyone has and ideas, please let Harry know?
