COMMITTEE REPORT 2018
Followin9 the A6M in October, the committee was immediotely discussing plans for a
Halloween event. The lo￿1 council was approached regording the provision of a beacon
structure. but unfortunately there wasn't one available. Posters re a Halloween Fancy
tJres$ & Disco were distributed QKI displayed in local primary schools tsnd public
outlets. The event was well attended with the children {and some parents} wearing a
variety of costumes. many of which were made with household materials.
Due to the lengthy process of acquiring the license for the erection of festive street
lights, the sequence of steps had been initiated before the AGM and was suc¢essf ully
completed prior to the December '$witth on.. The siting of the Christmas tree in the
Community 6arden proved popular and the participation of the two local school choirs
and the use of the snow machine contributed to the festive atmo$ph¢re. The
distribution of treats (fftd glow-sticks and a performance by the Friendship Bond was
appreciated by the large crowd.
Once agoin. the committee liaised with tht O'shea family to incorporate the Santa
Grotto as part of the annual Christmas Fayre to raise funds for Marie Curie. in memory
of their deceased family member, Marie-ann.
In April. starting at the Community Centre, the children. accomp(￿led by adults, went
in setrch of hidden taminoted images of chicks {150} hidden around the village. The
child who returned with the most '¢hi¢ks' was award¢d a Sh￿11 trophy. All the children
{ond adults} participotln9 received a chocolate Cream egg.
The 5-day Summer Festival was held during the f irst week in August. The children's
events as usual. were very popular with record attendances at the Sand Design. Teddy
Bears, Picnic, Cycle Races. Bubble Football and Talent Show events. Following feedback
from the residential homes. the Senior Citizens, Event involving afternoon tea ond
sandwiches. instead of a 3-course meal. was thoroughty enjoyed by all, with music.
reminisceht of their youth, encouragin9 them to fully participate in the sin9ing. The
Parade wos once a9ain held on a Friday evenlng {followin9 the disoppointing
unavailability of Bands last year on the sunday parade}. The inclusion of pipers {in
addition to two other bands} was fully opprtciated by the large crowds spectating.
The winning f loot was from Ardview House {Residential Home}. Even though Ard9lass is
a Coastal villo9e, many res£dents had never experienced a¢tualty goir9 Out on the water.
The free family VikiThJ boat trips gratefully provided this opportunity with a constant
