Ráteas an Chathaoirligh

Cuirim fáilte agus céad romhaibh uilig go Cruinniú Cinn Blaina Ghlór na Speiríní 2023 anseo insan Mheitheal abhus anseo i mBaile na Scríne. Bhí bliain mhaith eile againn i mbliana. Cuireadh cuid mhór imeachtaí ar fáil do gach aoisghrúpa agus do gach ábaltacht. Mar gheall air seo, ta líon na ndaoine a bhíonn ag freastail ar na himeachtaí ag méadú i rith an ama agus is maith sin a fheiceáil agus go maire sé. D’eagraigh muid, tríd an bhliain, cruinniú do dhéagóirí agus b’aidhm an chruinnithe tuairimí na n- óg a fhiosrú, le fáil amach, go díreach, cad é ba mhaith leo a fheiceáil ag tarlú i nGlór sna míonna agus sna blianta amach romhainn agus chuaigh againn an aidhm sin a bhaint amach. Is éard a bhí uatha imeachtaí atá níos oiriúnaí dá aois s’ acu macasamhail podchroalta a dhéanamh srl. Tá muid, mar choiste, ag iarraidh úinéireacht ghníomhach a bhronnadh ar óige na Scríne ag achan leibhéal. Mar sin de, iarraim ar na hóige a bheith iomlánpháirteach i nGlór.

Mar fhocal scóir, is mian liom, thar cheann choiste Glóir na Speiríní, dár mbuíochas ó chroí a ghabháil le Conchúr as an obair mhór, obair na gcapall a rinne sé le linn na bliana seo. Lean tú ar aghaigh le hobair Ghlóir gan stad gan staonadh agus tá mé cinnte gur tréimse dhúshlánach go leor in amanna a bhí ann. Léirigh tú dílseacht do chuspóirí agus d’aidhmeanna Glóir chun go dtiocfadh siad chun solais in mBaile na Scríne agus sna ceantracha maguid.

Go raibh céad maith agat a Chonchúir.

I welcome you all to Glór’s annual AGM 2023 . It’s good to have our AGM here in An Mheitheal once again. We have had another successful year with various events organised for all age groups and abilities throughout the year. As a result, we have witnessed a steady increase of participants in all events and that’s great to see; may it last. One of the major events we organised was an open forum for the youth and its aim was to gain feedback from our youth as to what they would like to see happening in GLÓR. What we did find out was that the young people wanted more events that were more suitable for their age group i.e to produce podcasts etc. We received some very good ideas and we intend to act upon them going forward. The youth will hopefully have a huge part to play in the coming months and years and therefore, I would encourage the youth of Ballinascreen to actively be a part of Glór na Scríne.

On behalf of Glór I want to take this opportunity to thank Conchúr for the hard work he has done over the past year. You pushed ahead regardless, you showed your dedication to realising Glór’s objectives and aims in Ballinascreen and beyond.

Go raibh céad maith agat a Chonchúir.

Cuspóirí agus Aidhmeanna / Objectives and Aims

  1. The direct benefit which flows from our purpose to advance education in the Irish language, culture, traditions and history; is to increase the knowledge base, understanding and abilities of each person who participates in our activities. The benefit can be demonstrated by the collection of information regarding the numbers of people taking part, feedback from them on how they are doing, and how they progress through the different levels of class.

  2. The direct benefit which flows from our purpose of advancing community development and social welfare is that the community will increase its cohesiveness. Opportunities will arise for the local community to engage in volunteering which builds strength and confidence in itself. This can be demonstrated by the number of people who volunteer to help over time.

  3. The direct benefit which flows from our management of a community centre is that we can provide a physical space for the educational, cultural and community development activities to take place. This benefit can be demonstrated by the number of hours the centre is used per week; the variety of activities and groups using it and the number of people involved each time it is used.

The beneficiaries of our charitable purposes are primarily the inhabitants of Ballinascreen and its environs of the parish and South Derry.

In setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year the trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.

Opportunity to volunteer and the local economy: The above-mentioned activities, put on via Glór na Speiríní, would not be possible without the help and hard work of a number of volunteers. From the Directors giving up their time to plan and develop, to those helping on the ground at events and at fundraising. And of course, Glór provides a platform for people to learn new skills and contribute to social cohesiveness by volunteering. Secondly, Glór has brought some welcome revenue into the local economy by providing employment to a number of people; whether occasional such as our youth leaders, or on a more structured basis such as our language development officer. We are committed to making use of local suppliers for goods and services whenever we can, albeit within the constraints of relevant procurement conditions concerning best value, open competition etc.
