Objectives and Activities
Limavady Central Primary School PTA is an active Parent Teacher Association made up of elected parents and staff who work together to organise fundraising and social events for the benefit of the pupils of Limavady Central Primary School, their families and the wider community.
The purpose of the Association is to advance the education of pupils in the school, in particular by:
-
fostering and improving relationships between home and school
-
supporting the school through fundraising and volunteering
-
providing or contributing towards resources, activities and opportunities that benefit pupils
-
supporting wider community engagement, including links with families and preschool children
The PTA works closely with the Principal and school staff to identify areas where support can be provided and to ensure that all funds raised are used for the benefit of the school and its pupils.
The PTA also supports wider family and community engagement through activities and events that bring together children, parents, staff and the local community.
Public Benefit Statement
The trustees confirm that they have had regard to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit.
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school
The benefit flowing from this purpose includes stronger links between parents, families, the school and the wider local community, together with additional support and resources for the school.
This is demonstrated through:
-
maintaining an active PTA
-
encouraging parental involvement in school life
-
organising events and initiatives which support the school community
-
working in partnership with the school to support its educational and community aims
This purpose does not give rise to any harm.
The beneficiaries are the children attending Limavady Central Primary School, together with their families and, where appropriate, the wider school community.
Trustees (who are often parents of pupils at the school) may benefit in the same way as other parents and families involved in the school community. Any such benefit is incidental and necessary in order to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide benefit to all beneficiaries.
Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school
The benefit flowing from this purpose includes improved educational opportunities, enhanced school experiences, and access to additional resources, activities and events which may not otherwise be available through the school’s direct funding.
This is demonstrated through:
-
fundraising to provide additional support and resources
-
supporting educational and recreational activities
-
helping to enhance pupils’ school experience
-
contributing to opportunities that support children’s development and wellbeing
This purpose does not give rise to any harm.
The beneficiaries are the children attending Limavady Central Primary School.
Trustees (who are often parents of pupils at the school) may benefit in the same way as other parents and families involved in the school community. Any such benefit is
incidental and necessary in order to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide benefit to all beneficiaries.
Achievements and Performance
During the 2021–2022 financial year, the PTA continued to support Limavady Central Primary School, although its normal programme of fundraising and social events remained significantly affected by the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While restrictions had eased compared with previous periods, the after-effects of COVID continued to limit the PTA’s ability to organise and run its usual in-person events and fundraising activities. As a result, activity and income during the year remained very low.
Despite these challenges, the PTA remained active and continued to use funds carried forward from previous years to support the school and its pupils where possible. The trustees focused on ensuring that available funds were used in ways that provided direct benefit to children and the wider school community.
During the year, the PTA received a total income of £6.61 , comprising bank credit interest.
Funds available during the year were used to support a number of important schoolrelated activities and initiatives, including:
-
NCPTA / Parentkind membership
-
a retirement gift for Mrs Smyth in recognition of her service to the school
-
a contribution towards Primary 7 Leavers’ Hoodies
-
a contribution towards school trips for pupils
These contributions helped to support pupil experiences and wider school life during a period when opportunities for PTA-led activity remained limited.
The trustees are satisfied that, despite the continuing effects of COVID-19 on normal operations and fundraising, the PTA continued to provide clear public benefit during the year by supporting the educational experience, wellbeing and school life of the children at Limavady Central Primary School.
Financial Review
Income
The charity received income during the year as follows:
• Bank Interest — £6.61
Total Income: £6.61
Expenditure
Expenditure during the year was applied in furtherance of the charity’s purposes and included:
-
NCPTA Annual Subscription (Parentkind) — £128.00
-

-

Net Movement in Funds for the Year
Net Movement in Funds for the Year: (£1,173.39)
The charity’s expenditure during the year exceeded its income by £1,173.39 . This reflects the PTA’s continued use of funds carried forward from previous years to support the school and its pupils during a period when fundraising opportunities remained severely restricted.
The trustees considered this to be an appropriate and responsible use of accumulated funds in light of the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the limited opportunity to hold normal PTA fundraising events.
Funds carried forward at 31 August 2022: £4,866.43
The trustees are satisfied that the charity’s income and expenditure during the year were applied in accordance with its charitable purposes.
Structure, Governance and Management
The charity is governed by its constitution and is managed by the elected PTA Committee, who are the charity trustees.
The committee is made up of parents and staff members who volunteer their time to organise activities, manage fundraising and oversee the administration of the charity.
Trustees are elected in accordance with the Association’s governing document and work closely with the school Principal and staff to identify priorities and agree the appropriate use of funds raised.
During the year, committee activity and fundraising remained affected by the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the trustees continued to oversee the charity’s affairs and make decisions in the best interests of the school and its pupils.
Risk Management
The trustees recognise their responsibility to ensure that the charity is properly managed and that appropriate procedures are in place.
The main risks to the charity relate to:
-
the safe organisation of fundraising and community events
-
financial management and oversight of funds
-
volunteer availability and capacity
-
safeguarding of children and young people involved in PTA activities
-
disruption to normal PTA operations arising from public health or other unforeseen circumstances
The trustees seek to manage these risks by:

-
maintaining appropriate financial records and controls
-
ensuring committee oversight of income and expenditure
-
supporting safe and well-organised activities for children and families
-
