## **a word from the chairperson** 


Foyle Parents and Friends Association has gone from strength to strength in 2022.  We completed a period of strategic planning and following the covid pandemic we are proud to say all our services are now operating fully with a vibrant summer scheme, comprehensive support for parents and thriving day opportunities.  I look forward to 2023 with immense pride in the work we do and development of sevices to those in the learning disability community that need it most.

A community where people with learning disabilities and their families are supported to lead full and meaningful lives.

Supporting people with learning disabilities and their families to improve their quality of life.

Supporting- We strive to provide supportive, caring environments by working in partnership with our participants and families. Through empathy, understanding and compassion we will provide holistic services promoting resilience and achievement. 

Connecting- We recognise the importance of working together as a community, volunteer led organisation. We believe that by promoting inclusion and connecting communities we will improve health and wellbeing, promote opportunities and independence. 

Sharing- We commit to sharing the journey families take by providing respite, advice, support and guidance. Our goal is to promote equality and inclusion, valuing and recognising progress and achievement. 

## Outcomes 

- Parents and Families of people with learning disabilities are supported to access services and respite they need and want. 

- People with learning disabilities are supported to improve their skills, independence and quality of life. 


- Staff and Volunteers are valued and recognised. 

- Operating as a sustainable and innovative organisation 



## **our achievements for 2022** 

## **Day Opportunities** 

The Foyle Parents and Friends Association- Tuned In Project offers adults with learning disabilities the opportunitiy to further their education, potential and wellbeing through life skills, the digital and creative arts and social programming. 2022 seen growth in our staff team, programming and overall administration of the project. 

- 9-3pm daily Monday to Friday Offers 200 places per week Student designed and led programming Offers trips away Expansive Social calendar including gigs and events State of the art premisies Performance opportunities to include choir festivals and large local festivals 

- Partnerships with local schools, arts organisations and training providers 

- Sports and actviites to include football and circuits 69 students attend on a weekly basis 


- Transport provision to Strabane, Limavady and Dungiven

## **summer programme** 

Over a three week period the summer scheme supported a total of 127 families with 127 children with complex learning needs ages 6 to 18. There has been increased demand for the summer programme this year, referrals and enquires have come from a wide range of parents and support workers outside the school.  Some of the results form the scheme are as follows:

## **other activities** 

## Bowling Club 


The association has been running a Monday evening 10 pin bowling club for over 20 people providing respite for carers.  It operates for 36 weeks in the year. 

## Thursday Night Socials 

Our Tuned In Project operates social evenings 36 weeks of the year.  Its student led with all the programming being driven by the students who attend. 

## Carers Bus Trip 

The association were delighted to offer a Christmas shopping trip with dinner to Belfast for Carers of young people with disabilities.  This was kindly supported by the Western Health and Social Care Trust. 

## Volunteering 

Foyle Parents and Friends Association prides itself on its recruitment and support of volunteers,  through our paertnership with the North West Volunteer Centre we have a dedicated team of volunteers to support our activities. 

- 20 volunteers recruited over 2022 


- Volunteer training consisting of first aid and Safeguarding Over 1500 hours of volunteer input
