Statement of Compliance
In setting uur objectives and planning our activities for the year the trustees have
given carefiil consideration to the Charity Commission for Nortlicrn Ir¢land's
guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the
charity's pU￿oseS and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.
Princlpal Activities
The Rock & District Historical Society is established to advance public
¢duLdlion through ihe prornotion, developtnent and dissemination of
knowledge of the history, archaelogy, folklore. traditional crafts and
antiquities of the Rock and its environs. The society also carries out research
by collecting, recording and publishing information on all aspects of local

We started the new fiscal year in November 2022 with a presentation from Dr
Paddy Fitzgerald on 'Intemal Migration in Ireland: 1600
December, Brendan Gomley gave a talk on 'Early Evidence for farn]ing in
the Spe￿Ins., This was followed in January with a presentation from Dr
Leanne Mcconnick entitled 'Bad Bridget; Crime and Irish Women in North
America 1838 - 1918., Then. in February, after a two year absence due to
Covid, we held our 'music night., As always, it was very well attended.

speaker, Sebastian Graham. graciously agreed to give his talk on 'The 1760's
Oakboy Protests in Mid Ulster, in October 2023.

The Society also organi7£d 2 one-day outing to Counties Roscommon and Lcitrim
in September. The day included visits to Strokestown House, the National Famine
Museum and the Shed Distillery in Drumshambo. Approximately 42 people
participatcd in this cducatio1￿1 luur.
In addition to the programes and one-day outing, the society also maintained its
Facebook page, which now has 445 followers.
Financial Review
The .1 rustees have a procedure in place to review the accounts annually.
The charity's accounts will be prepared each year to 31 October. These accounts
cover the year t() .1 l October 2023 and reveal a deficit of £53.
