Statement of Compliance
In setting) our objectives and planning our activities tor the year the trustees have
giiven caret'ul consideration to the Charity Commission t.or N(irthern Ireland's
gFuidaiice on piiblic benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the
charity's purposes and provide a benefit to the b¢neticiaries.
Principal Activities
The Rock & District Historical SoLiety is established to advaiice publiL
cducation tlirougFh the promotion. development and dissemination ot"
knowledgye ot" the history. archaelogy. t"olklore. traditional cralts and
antiquities of the Rock and its environs. The society also carries out research
by Collecting. recording and publishing inforniation on all aspects ot. local
history of the Rock and local area.
Due to ongoing Covid restrictions, most ot. the society's programmes for the
year were carried out via Zoom online videoconferencing. In November 2021.
Dr Michael Simms. from National Museums Northern Ireland. gave a
presentation on Meteorites of. Northern Ireland. This was followed in
December by Johnny Dooher and his talk on 'Politics and the Partition Issue in
Tyrone 1900-1940,. In January 2022 our online presenter was Donal
McAnallen who presented 'Echoes ot" the Past in Tyrone . Unfortunately, the
Society's annual music night, typically held in February, had to be canc¢llcd
due to the Covid restrictions. In its place: Frank Mayc5 gave a talk titled

'Asian Volcano Erupts: Ireland Sufters., and in March, local historian Eoin Boyle
gave a presentation on 'Lime Kilns in the Rock Area.,
The Society also organized a one-day outingr to Belfast in October. The day
included visits to the Crumlin Road Gaol and the Ulster Folk Museum and a
shared meal. Approximately 30 people participated in this educational tour. When
the new programme season began in October 2022, we were able to meet again at
the Old School in the Rock. That month. local author Maura Johnston gave a
presentation on the 'hearth langyuage. Seamus Heaney used in his writings.
Financial Review
The Trustees have a procedure in place to review the accounts annually.
J'he charity s accounts will be prepared each year to 31 October. These accounts
cover thc year to 31 October 20?2 and reveal a defiLit of £550

TO THE TRUSTEES OF ROCK & DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY
We report to the charity trustees on our examination of the accounts for the year
ended 31 October 202? which are set out oil pagyes 7 to 8.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in
accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.

examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland)

t'ollow the proccdures laid down in the greneral Directions given by the Charity
Commission tor Noithern Ireland under section 65{9)(b) of the Charities Act:

Basis of independent examiner's report
We have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities
Act and our examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions
given by the C harity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9){b) ofthe
Charities Acl.
Our examination iiicluded a review of'ihe accounting records kepi by the charity and a
comparigon ot"Ihe aLcounts presented with th08e records. It also includes
consideration ot.any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seckin
explanations froni you as charity trustees concernin&1 any such Inatters.
Our role is to state wheiher any material matters have come to our attention giving us
cause to believe:
l. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the
Charities Act
