MOYASSET HERITAGE AND CULTURAL SOCIETY TRUSTEE REPORT 2022-2023

VENUE: MOYASSET ORANGE HALL

Due to continuing concerns of some members of the society regarding COVID and the death of one trustee, death of our Chairperson’s son and the serious illness of another trustee, there was no programme of events planned for the year 2022-2023

One special event did take place to mark the Coronation of King Charles III

Date Event Event Details and Comments
8/5/23 Coronation
Celebration
This was the first event organised by MHCS since Covid 19. The need for this event was met by the
attendance of 50+ people at the event with comments from participants on how they have missed
meeting each other and their support of an event to mark the historic coronation. Two of the
participants are over 90 years of age and are lone rural dwellers. People commented on how they
have felt isolated and lonely in the past few years and were really happy to see the recommencing
of group activities.
The benefits to Moyasset Heritage and Cultural Society were to build new friendships and renew
old , encourage new members to the group, reduce isolation which is of concern to lone dwellers ,
within the group members . We had 7 new participants at the event and the majority of the other
participants were over 80years of age. Benefits of the Grant byMid and East Antrim Borough
Council to the wider borough were to fill a void in the local area for coronation celebrations ,
helping to promote a positive image of the council and how the ratepayers money is being spent
and also to promote the NI Centennial Stone which was commented on very positively by
members. After the Salad Tea, we had entertainment from Milltown Accordian Band and Bagpipe
playing by Margaret Hill and friend which was all very well received.
We produced a leaflet detailing the event and this included an acknowledgement of the funding
received by Mid and East Antrim Council. The funding was also acknowledged by the chairman for
the event in the opening remarks.
The numbers attending were much higher than expected. There were no photopraphs taken of
this historic event as the committee member who would normally have taken photographs of all
our events died recentlyand no one else remembered to take any photographs.
