WHITEHEAD PRIMARY SCHOOL PTA PUBLIC BENEFIT REPORT FOR FINANCIAL YEAR 2017-18
IN SETTING OUR PURPOSES AND PLANNING OUR ACTIVITIES THE PTA HAS HAD REGARD TO THE CHARITY COMMISSION’S GUIDANCE ON PUBLIC BENEFIT.
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Whitehead Primary School. Charity trustees are also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding.
ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN DURING FINANCIAL YEAR 2018-19
Whitehead Primary School PTA organises events to both raise funds for the school as well as to create a sociable atmosphere and provide an opportunity for the children to enrich their days at the school.
PTA assisted on European Day of languages by arranging a ‘European – themed’ snack for break time in school.
There have been 2 evening discos for the children, both well attended in the evening and at Halloween the children dress up in costumes. PTA provide music and lights as well as snacks at an affordable price.
The Christmas events involved organising Secret Santa shopping day in school… items are donated by parents which the children then pay £1 to buy in the Santa shop. There are parent helpers on hand to wrap the pressies for the children to take home to their secret santa. This day also saw a visit to school by Santa himself and all the children received a present arranged by PTA.
Spring term saw a movie night held in school, with a choice of movies for the different year groups in the classrooms in school. Treats and refreshments were supplied by Carmel’s confectionery shop in Whitehead. The movies and treats were very much enjoyed by the children on the evening.
This was followed by our annual Games Night which attracted most of the pupils to the school for an evening for bouncy castles, visits from wildlife farms, fire service and police, as well as the popular candy floss man and BBQ - provided and run by the local butchers McMasters to name but a few of the attractions on the night.
Once again, PTA has been very appreciative of the support of all who help at and attend the events. As always, the focus has been on fun and fundraising, both of which have been in plentiful supply this year. As result of fundraising efforts by PTA, £12000 was transferred to school towards the purchase of replacement classroom furniture.
No private benefit has resulted from activities undertaken in this financial year, other than that resulting for the trustees who are also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
This concludes the trustees report for Whitehead Primary School PTA for the financial year 2018-19
