**Financial Year:** 01 October 2022 to 30 September 2023

**Charity Registration No:** NIC 103131

St Canice’s is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in Dungiven and was established for the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for amateur sports and recreation that promote fitness, particularly the participation in Gaelic games, for the benefit of the public in Dungiven and the surrounding areas.

## **Public Benefit Reporting:**

In 2022/2023 we provided Gaelic games coaching for a wide cross section of the community, for people of all ages; from preschool, underage and youth teams to seniors and reserves for the older athletes who still wish to participate in a healthy lifestyle.

The Club provides coaching on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday for around 125 children in the under 6, under 8, under 10 and under 12 age ranges, 30 in the under 14 and under 16 age ranges on a Tuesday and Thursday, 25 minors on a Monday, 30 seniors and 55 reserves train throughout the week with matches at the weekend.

The Club hosted a phenomenally successful Easter Camp for 200 members and nonmembers aged 5 to 14. The Club also hosted a phenomenally successful Summer Camp again for 200 members and non-members aged 5 to 14. The Easter and Summer Camps not only promote fitness through sport but is also an opportunity for those taking part to learn and develop the Irish language, gaining greater knowledge of their cultural heritage and learning to respect all cultures.

Weekly the club hosts Irish dancing classes on a Monday evening, a weight loss management programme on a Tuesday evening, ladies fitness classes on a Wednesday evening, spin classes on a Tuesday evening and drama classes on a Thursday evening. We also host events for the elderly and fundraising for various charities throughout the year.

Through promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for amateur sports and recreation that promotes fitness for all ages, the Club has benefitted a large cross section of the community; men, women, and children of all age groups. The participation in sport and recreation benefits not only the fitness, health, and sense of wellbeing of participants of all ages but also improves social cohesion and community life through making new friends, connecting young people to their communities, and providing them with attractive alternatives to risk taking and anti-social behaviour. Furthermore, educational benefits are noticed through learning new skills and development of the Irish language. These benefits also extend to friends, family and supporters who spectate at matches and club events.

The Club has mitigated any harm from these purposes as throughout the year the Club implemented a training programme for staff which included mandatory first aid training. This ensures that there is assistance available for any person suffering a sudden illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent condition from worsening or to promote recovery during the Clubs regular activities.

There was no private benefit for the year.
