## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The Charity is under the control of LOL 47 and the trustees as detailed in the Bands Constitution. The Charity is registered as a charity under the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland from 12[th] August 2015. The trustees are listed above.

## **Aims and Objectives**

We work to educate the public in the Musical Arts, particularly the art of brass band playing and to further the development of public appreciation and taste in the said art by the

presentation of concerts and other activities. The band will where possible answer any reasonable request for service within our community.

## **Public Benefit**

To promote the playing of brass band music in a variety of different forms and to promote understanding and appreciation for brass band music. The direct benefit which flows from this first purpose is that the cultural lives of the general public of Hamiltonsbawn, Armagh and indeed all areas of Northern Ireland where we play will be enriched with high quality musical performances. This benefit can be evidenced by feedback from the general public who have attended our concerts or seen us perform at other musical events. This purpose will not lead to any harm and results in no private benefit.

2. To provide a high standard of training for all band members and learner members by providing regular band practices and extra tuition when it is required. Further practice is gained by taking part in regular private and public musical engagements and also by taking part in brass band contests. The direct benefit which flows from purpose 2 is that our members will attain a higher standard of musical appreciation and develop enhanced playing skills which they in turn can use to coach the junior section of the band. This purpose will not lead to any harm however there is a minimal private benefit as we pay minimal expenses to a musical conductor for tuition. This benefit is incidental and is necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

3. To enhance the musical interests of the public not only in our own village and surrounding are but to Northern Ireland as a whole. This can be demonstrated by the fact that we take part in events not just run in our local area but throughout the whole of Northern Ireland. This purpose will not lead to any harm and results in no private benefit.

4. To foster good relationships with other musical organisations within the Armagh area and further afield. The direct benefit which flows from purpose 4 is that good relationships are forged with other musical organisations and allows for musical collaboration with them regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion or sexuality. It also allows for our musicians to play with another band and gain the experience of playing with other musicians learning new techniques and allows for musicians from other bands to guest play with us on occasions at different local events and concerts. This purpose will not lead to any harm and results in no private benefit.

5. To increase and stimulate local interest in the musical and cultural development of the band. The direct benefit which flows from purpose 5 is the enrichment of the cultural lives of the local community in which our members reside and also of our audiences. This benefit is evident by the continual support we get from the public before and after any event that we attend or organise. We have in the past formed a junior band which has participated in events separate to the Band. All of these children come from the local area and many would not have had the opportunity to learn and play a musical instrument. We currently have 6 junior players at present. By partaking in band activities they are learning about team work,

the value of practicing and taking part in events and self-discipline to set aside time each week for home practice. This purpose will not lead to any harm and results in no private benefit.

## **Statement of Public Benefit**

The direct benefit from our public benefit is an increased awareness in the local community of brass music. There has also been an increase in our membership and an increase in demand for the Band to take part in musical events. These events are from both sides of the Community and cover a wide range of ages.

The beneficiaries are the general public who attend the events that we take part in or run and also our members and their families.

This year we have attended a variety of events which have included concerts, church services, local parades and carol services. These events have been held in Protestant and Roman Catholic Churches thus ensuring those from both sides of the community can hear our music. In Dec 23 we once again took part in the Armagh Georgian Day and played on Scotch Street to a large number of attendees. We also had the opportunity to play in Armagh RC Cathedral at Lisanally Special School Christmas service. In May 2023 we held a presentation evening to award long service medals to 3 members who had service of 40 years, 65 years and 70 years.
