Activities and Achievements
2023 – 2024
Grey Abbey PTA has completed another successful year supporting the school to raise essential funds for the benefit of all our children.
PTA fund raising efforts started with the return of the school year in September 2023. The goal for the year was to raise £2,000 to help with the requisition of books and stationery for each class.
September – December 2023
We began with children being provided with Smarties tubes. Once they had enjoyed the Smarties children were encouraged to fill the tube with change and return it to school. This has raised a total of £82.55 so far this year.
Tuck bags at the school disco in November raised a total of £70.00.
We held raffle in October for a beautiful pumpkin floral display donated by Mr Burns.
This raised a total of £111 for PTA funds.
The Christmas Fair took place on Friday 8[th] December 2024 with a number of PTA stalls in the main assembly hall. Due to the poor weather the outdoor market which was to be held in the playground was moved to the classrooms in the school building.
All the children made crafts to be sold at the Fair.
A raffle was also held with prizes donated by a number of local businesses, residents, parents and PTA. The total raised at the event – £1,101.60.
All the prizes donated by local business, parents, classroom assistants, grandparents and the local community!
January – March 2024
We held an Easter raffle with the contents of the beautiful basket kindly donated to the PTA by a parent, second prize – a balloon and sweets and third prize – an Easter egg, donated by the PTA.
P1 – P6 completed a colouring completion and the winners, chosen by P7’s, each received an Easter egg from the PTA. This raised a total of £245.20 for funds.
April – June 2024
May saw a relay team complete the Belfast marathon. The team raised a total of £2,481.33 which is absolutely fabulous and helped massively towards our funding raising goal for the school.
This year saw another sports day hosted by Mr and Mrs Montgomery who once again very kindly helped with the refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits for everyone and ice cream for the children.
We welcome the addition of new members to the PTA and their enthusiasm to help out at events for the benefit of all involved with the school.
Mr Derrick, Mrs Nelson, all the teachers and classroom assistants have offered great support to the Committee at PTA meetings and at all the events held throughout the year and we are thankful for all the help and support they give going above and beyond to help out.
We thank all the parents, grandparents, carers, Board of Governors and the local community for their continued support throughout the year.
The PTA would particularly wish to thank Mr Derrick for all his help, support and words of encouragement for the PTA and we wish him a long and happy retirement from all those past and present PTA members!
We look forward to a successful 2024- 2025 school year of raising funds to support the school.
