ANNUAL REPORT — HARTFORD FRIENDSHIP CLUB — 5 June, 2025

The Club has had a very busy and active year with a varied programme of events funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and ABC Council. Membership has increased but sadly we lost some very valued members over the year due to illness.

The Running Costs grant from ABC Council financed the hire ofthe Hall, Public Liability Insurance and some stationery expenses. The Community Fund helped us pay for 6 Flower Arranging classes, subsidised Christmas Dinner, speakers and an outing. The tables and sound system equipment purchased have enhanced the organisation of events. Monthly meetings and taking part in activities have ensured members developed new friendships and reduced isolation in the community.

In September, we enjoyed catching up after the summer break with a sit-down salad meal followed by music by John Ford.

Rev David McComb visited the Club in October and gave a presentation on ‘Water Drops’. Members decided to donate to this worthy cause as their nominated charity.

In November, Mark Hawthorne told members about his poignant trip to the Somme.

We held our Christmas Dinner in December. The caterer was Brian Henry and Gerry and Willie entertained us afterwards.

Our New Year celebrations started with Mulled Wine and Shortbread and as the speaker on Reminiscence was unavailable Lorna talked about the vast array of old implements and old clothing and hats which were displayed.

We had a regal atmosphere in February with an entertaining talk given by Rev Kerr on Royalty and Monarchs over the past centuries with humorous stories about Henry VIII, Richard III, Charles I, Queen Anne, William HI and Mary II.

In March, John Woods from Linwoods brought along his firm’s products and gave a talk on ensuring a healthy lifestyle and improving well-being.

We enjoyed an Easter Party in April with Armagh Old Boys ensemble giving a short concert and a special supper afterwards.

Robert Davidson brought along a wide variety of plants in May and demonstrated how to create planters and hanging baskets. Members had the opportunity to purchase plants, tubs and hanging baskets.

Our Annual Outing in May was to Maghera Garden Centre and Portstewart. The Royal Hotel in Cookstown provided Morning Coffee and a delicious evening meal.

After the election of officers for the 2025/26 year we hope to hold a Beetle Drive which will be organised by Charlotte George.

I would like to thank our Chairperson, Treasurer and the Committee who have worked tirelessly to ensure all events run smoothly and are well organised. The Club members have been a tremendous support and their regular attendance is much appreciated. With a team effort and further funding, we will continue to improve the Club and we look forward to the future with confidence. Thank you.
