The trustee5 present the annual report and statement of Receipts and Payments and Assets and Liabiltties for St John the
Baptist Parish of Dunluce for the year ended 31st December 2023.
Objective5 and Actlvities
The charitable purpose of St John the Baptist Parlsh of Dunluce Is the advancement of religion.
The princlpal function Is to SUPPOrt the advancement of the Christian religion by promoting, through the work of the Parish
the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. Engaging with soclety as a whole and
offerins support for those needing help are fundamental to the practical deltvery of the benefits of Christianity.
As a result of actlvity in the pursuit of the advancement of the Chr15tlan rellglon, the Parish has custody of property and of
records. materials and artefacts of si8nlficance to the cultural and rellgious herita8e and malntenance of whlch is
undertaken by the Select Vestry.
Achlevements, Performance & Publlc Beneflt
Hlghlights of 2023
The main prioritles during 2023 have been to install a new Rertor and get things back to normal post Covid.
Throughout the vacancy and for the flrst 8 months of the year, the Rural Dean Canon Malcolm Ferry. officated In the
Parlsh. Then In August, we were dellghted to welcome the Reverend Brian Harper as our new Rector.

Worship ondproyer
We continue to offer a range of 5ervice5 during the week and over the course of the year that our community flnds both
beneficial and splrltually fulfilling. Re8ular services take place on Sundays, mldweek and on religious festivals. At present,
there are S13 Church of Ireland famllies resident In the parlsh.
As well as our regular publlc servlces, we enable our community to celebrate and thank God at the milestones of the
journey through Ilfe. In 2023, there were 2 baptlsms, O weddin8s and 16 funerals.
Pastoml core
We believe that pastoral care should permeate all aspects of Church Ilfe in the Parlsh. The Rertor has overall responsibility
for ensuring that pastoral care is provided in the church and community but everyone ha5 a responslblllty to care for other5
by vlsiting the sick, elderly and bereaved, and those facing difficult tlme5.
People cannot care for one another if they don't know what is going on in each otherfs Ilves. We provide clear accessible
information through the Dunluce Parish webstte. the parish newsletter and Facebook. Dunluce Parish Church is at the
tentre of the Bushmills communtty and we provide a range of opportunities for worshipi prayer. fun, giving and servlng.

Mlsslon ondoutreoch work
One of the ways in which we reach people outside Bushmills is by givin8 money to other Christian or8anisations. In 2023,
we provlded support to a wide r8n8e of or8anlsatlons enabllng them to help thousands of people.. chlldren, young people
and adults. Thls Included maklng a substantlal donatlon to the Church of Ireland 8lshops' Appeal for World Aid and
Development.
Parlsh groups
We run several parlsh groups Includlng:
Sunday school take5 place durlng our 11 am Sunday Service and Is well attended. Time Is devoted to Blble teachln81
worshlp, Ind 8ames.
The Youth group meets every Monday evenin8 in the Par15h Centre. It allows young people to soclalise, and to enjoy
different Sports and actlvltles.
An Indoor 8owllng Club Is open on Monday and Wednesday evenings and is operated on a voluntary basis by a sm911
commlttee.
An External Bowlln8 Club, bÈhlnd the Parlsh Centre, Is on land leased from the Parlsh. Negotlatlons are currently
on8olng between the Selert Vestry, leasee and RCB and it15 planned that a new lease arrangement will be Introduced
in 2024.
The Motherfs Unlon meet5 on the second Tuesday ofeach month.
Many of our youth orKani5atlons have struggled post-covid not artually because the young don't want to loln but because
there Is an acute shorta8e of adult Instruttors. When the youn8 do turn up they Ilke to be Involved and appreclated,

We are always looklng for innovatlve ways to Implement the ¢harltable purpose of St J¢hn the Baptlst Parlsh of Dunlu¢e.
Our Facebook page has been reinvigorated and together with our website v￿lW.dUnIuce

Public Benefit
The trustees have consldered the Charlty Commisslon for Northern Ireland's 8uldance on publlc benefit to ensure that the
activitie5 entered Into during the year have helped to achieve the Parish's objectlves and activitles, as well as provldlng
public benefit. The provision of regular public worshlp ha5 implemented the charltable purpose of Dunluce Parf5h (the
advancement of rellglonl to the benefit of the people of Bu5hmills and visitors to the area. The activitles which we have
undertaken have contributed to the splrltual well-beln8 of participants and the relnforcement of Christlan values.

All sections of society are catered for from the very young. through youth group5 and adults to the elderly and infirm. A
particular effort 15 made to welcome visitor5 from outside Bushmills and from other faiths. The Parish's mission and out-
reath work ensures that our beneflclaries extend well beyond the local area. The trustees have made every attempt to
minimise restrictions on access to our services and facilities. Disabled access is available both in the Church and in the
Parish Centre. We have mltigated any potential harm from the activitles which we undertake. Our5afe8uardingTrust Pollcy
is reviewed annually and chlldren using our premises have their general safety and welfare promoted whlle being
protected from abuse. There is restricted access to unsafe areas such as the kitchen and the Church tower.
Voluntee
The trustees would Ilke to thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make our church the lively and vlbrant Communlty
It is. In partlcular, we want to mention our churchwardens who have worked so tirelessly on our behalf, and our
adminlstrator, the Glebe Committee, the counters, the cholr, the readers, the organlsts, the flower arrangers, the teachers
and youth leaders and everyone else for their valuable contribution to our ministry and for keeplng the church running.
Flnanclal Revlew
The trustee5 report an increase of £18,998 In unrestricted fund5 for the year, and comment further as follows:
Income from all sources Increèsed or remalned on a par wlth the previous year.
The annual Art sale and the Chrlstmas fundraiser were very successful. We were also plea$ed to h95t the
'8ushmllls throu8h the Wars, exhlbition and acknowledge thelr generous donatlon
Costs reduced prlmarily as a consequence of the pastoral vacancy.
Major capital expenses included the refurbishment of the Rectory, repainting the outside of the Parish Centre and
installing a safe and cupboards In the Vestry Room to conserve historlc documents.
Donations In 2023 returned to 'normal' levels following the unusually hl8h level which marked our Bicentenary
year in 2022.
Reserves
The parlsh had unre5trlrted cash reserves of £397,814 at 31# December 2023 f2022 £378 816).
The trustees considered this level of reseNes was more than adequate to sustain the anticipated day-to-day running costs,
upkeep and repair of the Church. Parish Centre, and graveyard for the foreseeable future. A decision was made In
December 2023 to Invest £91,000 for the lon8 term In unit trusts funds managed by the RCB.
Golng Concern
The trustee5 have revlewed the budgets for the year ahead and are satisfied that there are adequate funds in place to
ensure that the Parish can contlnue it5 activitie5 and the financlal statements for the year ended 315E
be signed off as a going concern.

members are the CharityTru5tees.

Recruitment andAppointment of Selert Vestry Ifrusteesj
All members of the Church of Ireland who are over the age of 18 and are either resident within the parish or live elsewhere
but have been accustomed members of the congregation for at least three months, may register a5 members of the
General Vestry of the parlsh, allowlng them to attend and vote at meetings of the General Vestry and to stand for election
to the Select Vestry. Meeting5 of the General Vestry are held at least once a year. The Select Vestry Is elected as part of
the General Easter Vestry meetlng. The Select Vestry will hold thelr positions for a period of one year. Select Vestry
members may be re-elected annually and there Is no limit on the numberof terms whlch rnay be served.
Pay and remuneration
The Incumbent recelves a stlpend In accordance wlth flgures approved by the General Synod of the Church of Ireland.
Organlsotlonol Strurture
The Selert Vestry is responsible for the day to day management of the Parish. The Select Vestry conslsts ofthe member
of the cler8y servlng in the Parish, any curate assistant I'the curate"), the churchwardens, the 8lebe wardens and generally
not more than twelve other members of the General Vestry elected at the General Eastervestry.
The Select Vestry is chalred by the Incumbent or other member of the cler8y offlclHtln8 in the parlsh. Select Vestry
members are responslble for maklng declsions on matters of 8eneral concern and Importance to the Parlsh Including
decldlng how Parlsh funds are to be applled.
The Select Vestry meets at times flxed by the members or by the dlocesan Synod. Speclal meetlngs may be convened at
any tlme by the chairperson or the churchwardens. In 2023, the Select Vestry met 9 times during the year and the average
attendance was 89 %.
Admlnlstrative support and malntenance to the Parish is provided by a Sexton, a Parish Administrator and a cleaner.
Statement of Trustees, Responslbllltles
The trustees are responslble for preparing the Trustees, Report and the statement of re¢elpts and payments and statement
of assets and liabilltles in accordance with applicable law and re8ulatlons.
The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland with Income of less than £250,000 requires the trustees to prepare
statement of recelpts and payments and a statement of assets and Ilabilities for each financlal year.
The trustees are responsible for keepin8 accountin8 records that are sufficient to show and explain the Parlsh's
transactions and disc105e wlth reasonable accuracy at any tlme the assets and liabllltles of the Parish. They are also
responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Parish and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and
detectlon of fraud and other irregularities.

Accounting policies
Set out below are the principal accounting pollcies whlch have been adopted in the compilatlon of the Receipts and
Payments Account and the Statement of Assets and Liabilities.
la) Re¢elpts and Payments Account
All item5 of income and expenditure Included wlthin the Recelpts and Payments Account have been accounted
for on a cash receipts basis.
Ib) Statement of A55ets and Llabllltles
(11 Assets retalnedAor the Parlsh s own use
The asset5 of the Parish, retained for Its own use comprise:
Church Bulldlng and Graveyard
The Church 8uildln8 and Graveyard are deemed to be Heritage assets as deftned by the Charities SORP
IFRS102). These Heritage assets are not included in the statement of assets and liabllltles as informatlon on
the cost or valuation Is n¢t available and such Informatlon cannot be obtalned at a cost commensurate with
the benefit to the users of the accounts and to the parlsh.
Par15h Centre
The Parlsh Centre Is recognised at rebuild cost for Insurance purp05e5. Thls was professlonally assessed in
2010 followin8 completion of major refurblshment and renovation works. No depreciatlon has been provided
on the Parish Centre bulldln8s a5 the current estimated residual value Is not less than its carryln8 value and
the remaining useful life currently exceeds 50 year5.
Rertory
The Rectory is reco8nised at the c05t of major refurbishment, extension and renovatlon work5 completed in
2013. No depreciation has been provided on the Rectory as the current estimated residual value is not less
than Its carying value and the remaining useful life currently exceeds 50 years.
All property Is vested in trust with the Representative Church Body.
(11) Investments
Investments in RCB/CIT Unit Trusts are initially recorded at cost and are then subsequently stated at fair value at
each year end date.
