3. Objects and Definitions 3.1. The Association is established to advance education, promote and advance conservation and sustainable development, promoted social inclusion, promote, preserve and protect mental and physical health and wellbeing and to promote the benefit and wellbeing of the inhabitants and in particular people with mental illness and associated problems and their carers (hereinafter called the “beneficiaries” of Northern Ireland in particular but not exclusively (hereinafter called the “£area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, sexual orientation, disability/ability, race ethnic origin, political, religious or other opinion by associating the statutory and local authorities, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interest of social welfare with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants and in particular: a) To support and promote the practice of care farming and the advancement of education relating to the methods and benefits of care farming, animal, husbandry, agriculture, horticulture, healthy eating and related practices for the public benefit; b) To advance the education of the public in subjects relating to sustainable development, waste management and recycling and the protection, management, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment and the encouragement of study and research in such subjects provided that the useful results of such study are disseminated to the general public; c) To promote or assist in promoting community capacity building programmes and projects for the benefit of the inhabitants within the area of benefit who have need of such assistance as a result of their youth, age, disability or infirmity, or social and economic circumstances, in an effort to increase the abilities, skills and self-confidence of such inhabitants in the area of benefit; d) To promote social inclusion and integration for the public benefit by working with people who are socially excluded or at risk from becoming socially excluded on the grounds of their unemployment, financial hardship, poverty or social and or economic positon, in order to relieve the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society; e) To advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the committee may from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of the charity. 3.2. For the purposes of this clause ‘socially excluded’ means people who are excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship; race; gender; poor educational or skills attainment; substance abuse or dependency including alcohol and drugs; disability; sexuality, ethnic origin; or who are within, or have experience, the public are or penal system. For the purposes of this clause ‘care farming’ means the operation and use of farming and related practices for therapeutic, vocational, educational and training purposes, for the benefit of those with health and social care needs, those in unemployment, those in need of rehabilitation, young peoples and others in charitable need. For the purposes of this clause ‘sustainable development’ means promoting development which meets the needs of the present without compromising he ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
