Carnagat Community Association
Association is established to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Greater Carnagat Area comprising Parkhead Crescent, Nursery Drive, Ardcarne Park, Carnagat Road, Carnage Park, Carnagat Cottages, Crannard Gardens, Knocknagoney Heights, Cairnmore Drive, Mullach Alainn, Laurel Hill & Springfarm Heights, without distinction of age, gender, sexuality, nationality, ethnic origin, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to relieve poverty, advance education and to provide or assist in providing facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupations, with the object of improving the conditions of life of the said inhabitants and in particular:
A) Maintain and manage a community house in the area of benefit for activities promoted by the association

During the period covered by this report, the Board met on 24 occasions. Committee members and occasional volunteers organised inclusive activities and events throughout this period. The diligent work of committee members provided fellow residents with a remarkable level of voluntary effort.
Following extensive delays in renovating the community house, we were delighted to return to the Community House in May this year. We have plans in place to deliver new and additional activities. We want to thank all the organisations that provided us with practical advice and assistance over the past two years, including our neighbours in the Derrybeg Community Association, who generously gave us access to their community centre for events and activities.
We receive continual professional support via the Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, the Confederation of Community Groups, the Southern Health Trust, the Housing Executive and Supporting Communities NI.
I am honoured to serve as Chairperson of our Board of Trustees. I extend gratitude to fellow members for their dedication to delivering activities, events, and running the Community House. I would also like to thank our fellow residents who have stood by us during difficult times
From 5 April 2023 to 31 March 2024, and 5 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, Carnagat Area Community Association sourced funding from the Department for Communities via the Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership. Newry, Mourne, Down District Council, BBC Children in Need, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Community Foundation NI, Southern Health, and Social Care Trust. The income and expenditure for the periods: 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. Our accounts were independently examined by McCann Teggart Ltd Accountancy Services, 2 Patrick Street, Newry, BT35 8EB. Copies of the accounts will be available at the AGM.
The Trustees of Carnagat Area Community Association currently hold no assets and have not identified any liabilities moving forward.
Financial Management: The Carnagat Area Community Association has sound financial management practices. Two out of three appointed signatories must sign all cheques. The Association has successfully managed a range of financial assistance, including grants, and fulfilled all accounting, reporting, and monitoring requirements. Our annual accounts are independently examined

Expenditure for the year totalled at £50,281 as compared to £39,760 for the previous year.
Major items of expenditure included:

£6,895 for seasonal community events, including Halloween and Christmas.

£20,951 was trips for our community residents.

£3,206 covered the purchase of various items of equipment for use within the community centre.

£4,327 was the cost of running our summer scheme.

£1,201 was the cost of the public liability insurance for the year.

All other items of expenditure are included in the full accounts for the year.
As of the 31[st] March 2024 the Carnagat Community Association had no funds in deficit.
No major risks have been identified.
The Trustees of the Carnagat Community Association can confirm that the Association currently hold no assets and have identified no liabilities moving forward.
The Community Association maintain robust financial systems and have good financial management systems in place; all cheques must be signed by two out of our three cheque signatories; we have successfully held several grants and have always fulfilled all accounting, reporting and monitoring requirements; our annual accounts are always independently examined.
This has been a busy and challenging year for our Charity Trustees as we continue to engage with the community in the heart of the area of benefit. Without a centre, we have maintained relationships with local organisations to continue the provision of our local community-based activities, events and programmes; weather permitting, we are also able to avail of the excellent outdoor space and garden area which surrounds the community centre.
Throughout the last financial year, we have received Ben support to distribute utility top ups for those most in need.
We have attended meetings with various agencies and continue to be present for The Housing Community Network, The Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership and associated subgroup meetings. Availing of any opportunity available to direct support into the Carnagat area.
We update social media pages to highlight opportunities for those living in the area. An example of these providers are: Training & Employment courses with Southern Regional College, Volunteer Now and People First. We also spread awareness of fun activities and low cost/ no cost ones that occur across the district.
The Carnagat Community Association is committed to doing its utmost to speak up for local people, ensuring voices are heard and needs are addressed. By championing the interest of the community, the association works to bring development that empowers our residents.
