During the period covered by this report, the Board met on 24 occasions. Throughout this period committee members and occasional volunteers organised inclusive activities and events. The diligent work conducted by committee members provided fellow residents with a remarkable level of voluntary effort.
The post pandemic period has presented everyone with challenges. We provided emergency assistance with food and utilities during and since the covid pandemic. We were allocated funds by The Department for Communities, Newry Mourne and Down District Council and The Confederation of Community Groups.
Like other volunteer led community groups we experienced disruption due to the pandemic. Fortunately, we have committed volunteers who are in it for the long haul. A considerable amount of work was done earlier in 2023 to prepare for an extension to the Community House. We are looking forward to delivering new and additional activities in the renovated building early in 2024. We are grateful to Derrybeg Community Association for allowing us to use their centre.
We receive continual professional support via the Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership (our Secretary Paula McGuigan holds the position of Chair of the partnership) the Confederation of Community Groups, and other important organisations including the Southern Health Trust, The Housing Executive, Supporting Communities NI.
I am honoured to serve as Chairperson of our Board of Trustees. I extend gratitude to fellow members for their dedication in delivering activities, events and running the Community House.
