NEPTUNE'S SPECIAL OLYMPICS CLUB-TRusfEES ANNUAL REPORT 2017 The Trustee5 of Neptune's Special Otympics aub present their annual report and accounts for the vear ending 31st August 2017 and confirm that they had regard to the Commi55ion's Public benefit requirement statutory guidance to ensu that the activities have helped to achieve the charitrf5 purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries. The aim5 of our club indude,- improved equality of opportunities to participate in sporting actlvities for people with an intellectual disability Icurrently aquatics but other sports can be provided in the futurel- improved general health and increaseil levels of filness- improved quality of life through enhancement of self esteem and enhancement of sociol ski115: greater social awane$S and acceptance of people with intellectual di5abilitie5. These benefits can be evidenced through- feedback from parents and athletes: independent evaluation in the fom) of SportNI Clubmark award- coaching records of athletes perfomiance: success and achievements in competitions. Throughout thE period of this report the club 34 one hour rrdining 5es510115 to coach, teach, train and develop our athlete5 Swimming abilities and techniques with a view to entering competitlon within the Special Olympics 4 year completion cyde. 5 of our athlete5 competed in year 2 re8ional game5 Within the Ulster Region. Neptune's also hosted an interclub competition to provide further competition experience. Some of the athletes who were nor ready for formal competition were able to compete in le55 formal competitNe activities during club trainin Alongside training the club also ran an ongoin8 healthy athlete programme with monthly 5e55ions that covered topic indud1 healthy eatin& personal hygiene, healthy teeth. fit feet, sun safety, 800d hydration. and physical activity- At the end of each term we held a celebrdtion event to encourage sacial 5ki115 at the same time as formal recognition of achievement througb presentation of awards and certificate5. We finished off the year with an end of year camp which included 2 dals development activities in retO8nised and qualified attivity provider.
All of our athlete5 showed improvement throughout the year in their swimming 3bllity, soclal interaction and knowledge and understanding of the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. This was demonstrated through aChvernents at competstion. improvements in timings recorded at training throughout the year. feedback from parents. feedback from coaches and from the athletes themselves. Our financial statement shows that we had funds of £3521 at the beginning of the year and through subscription5. 8rants and fvndrai5ing we benefited from additional income of £3170. Our spend throughout the year wa5 £4976. The spend was on runnin8 Cost for the sporting activities including facility hire and equipment. athlete reco8nition and devek)pment actNities, and club governance. A large proportion of the spend was on the end ofyear camp which totalled £1659.
